Keep the Washington Redskins Name

This is crazy. The name stands for Honesty and valour. Do not let the crazy left wing run our lives.

I do not think the name is offensive, and I believe our politicians should have more important things to focus on.

Who are "THEY" to tell Native Americans what is offensive? UnBelievable!!! Can one be more hypocritical???

Keep the name, honor the history, don't cave to the liberals. The government has much bigger problems than worrying about names of NFL teams

Keep the name! Where does it end! Keep in mind this fact: Oklahoma is a word that was made up by the Native American missionary Allen Wright. He combined two Choctaw words, “ukla” meaning person and “humá” meaning red to form the word that first appears in a 1866 Choctaw treaty. Oklahoma means “red person.” Doing a little research, I then learned that Allen Wright was 7/8 Choctaw, originally from Mississippi, and was a Presbyterian minister who had been educated at Union Theological Seminary. After fighting for the Confederacy during the Civil War, he was made principal chief in 1866 while away in Washington, where as one of the five delegates of the Choctaw Nation, he was negotiating a treaty to restore amicable relations with the United States. During those negotiations, he referred to the Indian country as Oklahoma, meaning Territory of Red People. Oklahoma Territory wasn’t established by the treaty but the name stuck. Later, there would be an Oklahoma Territory and, later yet, the State of Oklahoma. I also learned that decades earlier a nephew of the great Choctaw chief Pushmataha was named Oklahoma, but that was a happy coincidence. What we know as Oklahoma was not named after that man but was named by Rev. Allen Wright to mean land of red people. This is another example of Indians referring to themselves as red men long ago. If the Redskins have to change the name we then force Oklahoma to change.

I will forever boycott the NFL if the Redskins change their name! What will we sing then, "Hail to the Senators"?!

Even though I am a fan of their division rivals the New York Giants, I believe it would be an idiotic mistake for Redskins owner Dan Snyder to give in to a pack of know-nothings like Pres. Obama to change the name of his team. In fact, those who want to the name change to happen are really in the minority on this issue. The majority of American citizens don't want the Redskins to change it's name. Even a majority of Native Americans don't find the name offensive.

Keep the traditions. Do not fall under the pressure's of the #@$&ing PC Community!

I'm not even a fan of the redskins.. However, I am an avid football fan.. Despite, not being a redskins fan i recognize the team as one of a legacy.. The team name as well as logo representsWashington in a very respectful manner and I don't think tradition should be changed..

First of all why would a name or mascot be a team name or mascot if they were not looking at it as prestigious or honored. You don't see people naming a team "dog crap" to demean the team or players. If we actually thought it meant something demeaning, would weactually name our team the Redskins. We have a song dedicated to Redskins and Natives ultimately!

I think it's time we say "enough is enough" with all this political correctness. The Redskins name has a long legacy in Washington, and I refuse to accept that the team of Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgensen, John Riggins and the "Hogs" have to change their name because a few pointy-head liberals have a fit about it.

I am from the Tonto Apache Tribe in Payson AZ and as a Native American I don't take the name as being offensive at all in fact I take great pride in the name

that I am even signing this petition is ridiculous, it is the name of a football organization, it is not derogatory to the indian's, they should be ashamed of even bring this up, how long have the redskins been around 40-50 years? why now?

This whole thing is ridiculous. When will all this political correctness end? If the Redskins have to change their name, how about the Kansas City Chiefs? Cleveland Indians? Will a PETA activist group chime in and try to change the names of the Dolphins, Bears and Cougars next? I say KEEP THE NAME and stop pandering to every cry-baby liberal activist group out there.
