Sign this petition to support keeping the PAD document, time sheets and 'white book' hand written for current students. Changing the system to online will cause confusion for students who have already been using the hand written system for 1/2 years already. This is unfair for students to be expected to learn the new system half way through their degree course.
There are several things to take into account when introducing online documentation; 1) access to internet or computers in hospitals or out in community, which is a struggle with limited computers in hospitals. 2) having a smartphone/tablet to download the app onto, which not everyone has. 3) most trust policies have a no valuables on site rule, which means we shouldn't really be taking phones/tablets to placement to get stuff signed.

I have been reading through the comments and your stories about the reality of placement keep putting into perspective why this matters so much. It is overwhelming to see so many people feeling the same frustration about the shift to digital documentation. I am currently working on putting these concerns into a formal letter to share with the department heads.

Feel like nurse are harassed to complete paperwork enough with pefs and aa being emailed if late completing this. Not going to encourage mentors to stay ornery ones. Seems more about enforcement than anything else. No more associate mentors as can't do the paperwork.
I agree that for existing students this can become confusing. I think it's a good system to implement for future students.
I don't think this will be a good idea to introduce to the 3rd years after having 2 years of a hand held pad. Unsure how this will work as a lot of times on placement you can't even get signal so how will we log on the app, what happens if we don't take our phones to placement or they run out of battery/have no data left on them? When we go on study days or spokes our time sheets are signed by a variety of different people, how will this be able to be done if they do not have a log in?
This idea is unrealistic and unfair given time constraints in practice to have to log on to a computer and go through the hassle, it would make getting things signed off so much harder, and apps are also unrealistic because not everyone has smartphones/ enough storage/ good phone internet access (especially in the hospitals).
As third year students we will have plenty of stress and anxiety regarding placement and paperwork as it is. The online PAD will be an unnecessary addition to this stress. Some of us do not have smart phones or the data allowance to be able to use an app out in community. Also access to computers in the hospital is already limited, let alone when requiring time to discuss and sign skills online. Please consider keeping the same paper documentation for current students.
I agree with many of the other comments made about the logistics of this online PAD system. University lecturers were comparing this to other schemes at Salford, Bradford etc however talking to students at Salford they have stated that it was rolled out for their new cohort and intake, and not for those in the middle of their degree programme. I am really concerned that third year will already be a stressful time for most of us, and introducing a new electronic PAD will further add to this stress. Also, it is hard enough to get 'protected time' with our mentors when we can actually sign off our skills, let alone adding the complexities of having to find a computer etc in order to do this, especially in clinical areas (like CDU at St mary's) where the computers are constantly in use by members of staff.
Please don't switch to online pads!!

Let's just keep it simple. There's already enough for students to cope with without adding a monumental change in paperwork. Roll it out with the new first years and sort out the inevitable teething problems first.
