As union activists and leaders, we get our strength from the community, transparency and solidarity we share as sisters, brothers and friends in looking out for the best interest of our members in the regions we represent. It saddens me to see the lack of solidarity and transparency that was behind the decision to close our office. This was done without consulting the local leadership in our region to determine how we would be affected by this loss. I understand the financial cost in keeping up with the rent for the Toronto RUO, but surely that location (in the heart of downtown) is NOT the only option. For the National Executives who voted in favour of this closure, I implore you to reconsider your decision. I implore you to be better than the employer we exist to protect our members from . For those not from Ontario, please consider the message this is sending out: If it can happen to Ontario, who holds the greatest representation of membership within our union, who is next? We as a union are better than this. So please, be better than this!

As President for the Barrie Service Canada Local 549, I have utilized the services that the staff at our RUO offer. They know the issues the members of the GTA and Ontario need. We should not cut this vital service and connection to members!

The office move shows disregard for the members. The members are the foundation of the union. Keep the office where it is.

As the co founder of the Respect Vegreville campaign that was supported by CEIU, I’m concerned for the members and staff of CEIU that a decision like this was made in the manner it was. It wasn’t very different if at all, than what the employer we as Sisters and Brothers fought against in Vegreville. I’m very disappointed for the day that the union who is supposed to help members and demonstrate being a good employer do the exact same thing as employer they are supposed to protect their members from. That day has come and to that, I say SHAME.

Someone making decisions should be consulting with us and our needs. Have all options been researched? If this is a question of money, office size (space) and location can help. Our service should not be cut. If you won't talk to us, you can now listen to us.

This is not about closing an office. This is about the total disregard for the voice and the needs of the members. There was ZERO consultation even though there's a year and a half before the lease is up. Democracy not Dictatorship!
