This would greatly reduce the breadth and depth of opportunity offered

Please can we have sight of these plans to demolish part of the music block? Surely we need them or if not that there is justification to support this or to replace them with an alternative music facility and that we are duly informed? Thank you.

I too have written to the Head and Board in an effort to stop this from happening (well, what rumor says is happening - since there has been no formal communication!). Keeping the music facilities of the school intact is much more important than adding a gym for 6th form students. I echo comments below about the complete lack of consultation and communication from the school on this issue (and many others). I hope this outcry, although last minute, will be loud enough to halt this short-sighted/misguided plan.

Already written a letter to the Governing Board asking for clarification on any provision to replace the room with any alternative facilities should it be taken away eventually.

I've written a longer letter but in short I'd like the school to reconsider this decision which is not only limiting the musical teaching in the school, but also upsetting the staff and the girls for the lack of consultation and discussion on the implications.

Build a proper gym for all in a sensible place and don't destroy the music department. If done properly it could even pay for itself and even make money if that is the issue: other schools run gym membership for out of hours use and Summertown is not oversupplied with gyms.

OHS should be safeguarding its provision of music, not eroding it. Music is already nearly non-existent in the state sector. There are ample sports facilities already in the school. I hope this decision can be reversed

ther are plenty of alternatives to exercise available for sixth-formers and all . Music rooms are all indispensable

Have I missed all discussions or consultation on this or has there been none?!

Please discuss plans with parents and rationale for sacrificing music in favour of sports.

https://oxfordhigh.gdst.net/senior-school/co-curriculum/music-the-arts/ "The only question, then, is where will your passion take you?" To the gym, obviously. Do the right thing and put the 6th form gym in the 6th form block and leave the music block for music.

Surely a mistake? I sign this just in case somehow it is true...

I think it is a very stupid idea to add a gym in a music block. Firstly, the music block is already small as it is, so why take away some of it for sports! which already has a big occupation in the school! Secondly, it will only be for sixth formers, so why are why don’t we build a proper gym in a more appropriate space!!! that’s And finally, it is a lot to invest in. But I think we could use he money in another more useful way. Kind regards Rosa

It’s really important that music remains at the heart of OHS with proper resources and facilities.

Please reconsider!

deleteI am very concerned indeed about the decrease in music facilities and I ask that the school puts these plans on hold whilst a full discussion involving the whole school community takes place. I too have noticed the decline in school music over the last year or so.

Please OHS rethink this decision which will be very detrimental to music making at the school. This is surely more important than a sixth-form gym.

I fully support this petition, as does my daughter who is very cross about this plan. I believe it will be very damaging to the nurturing of musicians and musical theatre and all creative arts in the school - all things that were important to us when choosing OHS.

This move would be an absolute travesty if allowed to go ahead. I hope that the school will see sense in this matter and preserve the music block. The decline in school music has been noticeable over the last few years and the proposed changes would be detrimental.
