Keep the LINC Program at Vancouver Community College

It is shortsighted to end the LINC at VCC. Students currently in the programs shoulder be supported until they complete their learning. It could slowly wind down through attrition.

LINC Program is the best for newcomers who really need to learn English as it second language. I've heard great things from who had LINC experiences for their jobs. I really want to keep learning English at LINC for my future and life in Canada.

These students are striving to be productive citizens through their efforts to master the language. Many were skilled professionals in their own country who need only language proficiency.

Please extend LINC programming at VCC for at least another fiscal year.

Cutting the LINC program at VCC is short sighted. Being fluent in English allows for better job opportunities. Often newcomers have been professionals in their own countries and simply need the language skills to rebuild their careers. The VCC LINC program provides a rich learning environment in which students thrive and achieve their goals. Shame on the federal government for being so welcoming to immigrants and then shutting the door on them once they get here.

The benefits of this program pay for for the costs over and over -- cutting it is economically misguided.

Dozens of teachers will lose jobs they’ve done for more than 15 years. Thousands of new Canadians will lose important personal, professional, academic, and cultural support. As a dedicated LINC instructor, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of LINC programs on newcomers to Canada. These programs are not just about language instruction—they are crucial for helping newcomers integrate into Canadian society, navigate daily life, and contribute to their communities. The LINC program builds foundational skills, fosters community connections, and empowers newcomers to participate fully in the Canadian economy and culture. Ending LINC programming at Vancouver Community College without proper arrangements for student transfers will leave thousands of newcomers without essential resources. The resulting gap in services will disadvantage some of the most vulnerable members of our society and could have long-term adverse effects on community cohesion, social inclusion, and workforce readiness in future Canadian communities. I urge the Ministry to reconsider this decision and extend LINC programming at VCC for at least another fiscal year, ensuring continuity and support for students while a more comprehensive plan is developed. Supporting LINC means supporting a stronger, more inclusive Canada.
