Fishing at the end of the pier was always a treat to watch. It would be a real shame if it was stopped as it gives so much pleasure to so many people.

Never been to Eastbourne (from Tyneside) but can't see any sense in trying to stop fishing from any pier, unless there is a logical health & safety reason not to.

The whole team at Ontrent Angling are completely against a change in ownership ruining tradition.
Absolutely no harm is coming from the allowance of fishing on Eastbourne Pier, there is no reason at all that anybody should want it to stop. For decades the pier has been a place of community and has allowed like-minded people to enjoy their hobby together. To put an end to this is completely disrespectful to the local community, and shows the short-sightedness of the new owner.
Unfortunately there are only five of us on the team, and thus, five signatures are going onto the petition. We only hope that more people from all walks of fishing get to see this and sign, before it is too late.
Regards,
Jay

Please, for those that have a love for fishing or a passion for how the pier used to be, don't take this relic away from the community.

One of the reasons I visit Eastbourne is to spend a few hours with a rod on the pier. Visiting this weekend which will include a rented flat, theatre tickets (jersey boys) and many restaurant tables!

A very safe place to fish? Not if the structure is becoming unsafe. As I understand this repairs are needed at the end of the pier which means the fishing platform has to be temporarily closed. Surely no-one could argue with that? However the tackle shop obviously needs to move while the work is carried out but this seems to be a problem with the new owner. I don't fish but people have fished from piers as long as they have existed. I would not like to see the fishing community pushed out to make way for a more lucrative development.

This is part of our heritage, a birthright. Fishing not only helps people, it helps the community, the economy, the environment. Anglers are the ambassadors of our waterways, often the first line against pollution.
