Randall. Great points however this does not apply to the Farmland in Nashotah.
Manure management has been perfect on this land. Never any issues. No well issues.
Its not a threat. Its a reaction to a village board that quietly passed a discriminatory ordinance that was not needed and without any cause or proof of any issues on THIS LAND IN NASHOTAH.
Three people decided that they would create a law based off fear and misinformation of somthing that happened in another municipality with a totally different farm tenant. The landowner has a bot of a right to be upset. This was done without his knowledge or this farms tenant knowing anything about it or being consulted to have a rational discussion. Instead the overreached their power And forced it down their throat.
Had they discussed this before hamd they would have had a much different response.

We are in favor of keeping the farm land open, yet the tactics used by Gehl seem unreasonable as well. Is selling to a developer the threat to be held overhead at any ordinance not to his liking? Wells all over this state are contaminated with fecal matter from farming operations that were not properly managing disposal of manure. No matter how nice the house or how beautiful the view, without clean well water, the property has no value. Keep in mind, we also have a nearby lake that can be adversely affected by run off of improper manure management.

The farm is a beautiful place that would be a shame to lose. Someone has fronted the money to conserve it at no cost to the taxpayer. If the ordinance is the sticking point it should be removed

The Village seems to be reacting aggressively, if not over aggressively to what seems to be an isolated incident. We don’t need another development in lake country. There has to be a better way to approach this issue than to create laws/ ordinances that appear to be focused on this one property owner. Green space is a rapidly depleting commodity that needs to be preserved. Please get together and work out a better solution than creating a situation where selling this land is the owners only option !

We live just East of Hwy C on Woodland Park Dr. We hope Mashotah can work with all neighbors who cherish WI farmland. There is an easy solution presented. See how Delafield handled it.
