Erasing history is a very slippery slope. It allows a new narrative to be replaced that now cannot be countered factual evidence. This has been tried before and often with detrimental results.

I believe the answer to racism, is ignoring it. The same way you teach a dog to stop a behavior, who is supposedly less intelligent than humans. If we all ignored it, how could it continue? Rather than tearing down meaningful statues that stand for men who fought and died in war.. whether you agree the reason or not, at the time, it's what "we the people" wanted them to do.. I don't think any of these historic statues should be torn down (unless there's some I'm not currently thinking about representing behaviors that were never acceptable..) Besides, once you start giving in to tearing down history, it's only a matter of time before it all crumbles. You can not pick and choose which parts of history we remember.

As a voter, a patriot and a born in Virginia legacy, I would like to add my name to this petition to keep our monuments, statues and written documents, the way they are. Our past is our history. Our next generations need to know certain things, so they don't make the same mistakes in our future.

This monument has never hurt anyone. I am offended when we are forced to observe things from other countries and races that want their country referred to prior to saying American. This is American History. You cannot change history but you can change your environment. If you don't like our history, feel free to leave.

Such an assinine thing to be forced to do in order to stop the racist idiots that show their stupidity.
