Walsh wants to move the Columbus statue to another location because the statue is deemed "offensive." I guess moving ithe statue somewhere else will not be offensive in the new location...total idiots!!!

Columbus' accomplishments far outweigh the supposed negative aspects of his career. Additionally, he like each of us, was a person of his time. His thinking, ideas and behavior were shaped by the norms of his culture and the time in which he lived. Taking his actions out of historical and cultural context is revisionism at it's worst.

Of course, viewed in todays world, Columbus could be seen negatively. In the 15th century, however, it was a different world. Trying to impose today's values to histories figures is a fool's game. Learn from history and try not to repeat the mistakes.

I don't care that much about Christopher Columbus but I do care about what the statue represents. The Italian Americans who came to this country and didn't complain about being poor or asked for handout, but worked hard and contributed to our culture and fought and died protecting the country.

Most of the people who want this statue to remain don't care about the history of others nor were they taught the atrocities brought on by Christopher Columbus. Move it to a museum, preferably one that talks about the history of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and how Portugal was started by none other than *drum roll* Christopher Columbus!
