I believe it should stay up and add placards explaining why it was erected. Then also placards about the Native American culture and its rich history and contributions and one showing the best ideals of our Country to help us move forward in Unity, not conflict.

As a Social Studies teacher, I taught about the atrocities that Columbus and the other Conquistadors committed against Native Americans. We are aware of these parts of our history. The statue to Columbus is a tribute to our Italian immigrant parents, grandparents, etc. They experienced great hardships to travel to and establish a new life in America. They are to be applauded as heroes of our nation. We can still recognize Columbus' atrocities and honor our Italian heritage.

No one should be allowed to erase the past. No one should be able to judge the truth. I am proud of my heritage, as should each and every Italian-American.

Leave it be. It is our history. If you want a Unity Circle, find a new place for it just like our Italian ancestors found Columbus Circle.

We are not perfect because we are human. However, that does not make history irrelevant. Keep the piece for its art value, if that’s what you need to tell yourself. Leave it alone. God bless you Mr. Pirro. Our family will be praying for you. You are going to be out numbered.......

The shameful treatment of Italian Americams in this country cannot be forgotten. The statue of Columbus was never meant to injure others. On the contrary, it was a small step to aknowledge that citizens of Italian descent are not less than other citizens. If the statue is removed, the opportunity to educate future generations about the horrific experiences of Italian Americans may be lost. Any discussion of the Columbus statue must include measures to acknowledge the mistreatment of persons of Italian descent in this country.
