Keep the Columbus Monument Standing

Let it stand. This is going too far

Please keep the statue, not only for historical reasons, but because it would show that we are stronger than those who cave to any demand the mob chooses to make. They do not speak for us!

All races should have a voice , not just one .

Columbus is a hero and we are not mob ruled

They want to take down one they take all of them down.

Celebrate "Indigenous People's Day"? There is growing evidence that they were NOT indigenous. Also, many of these tribes were at each other's throats and scalps and numerous tribes practiced cannibalism, including the Onondagas!

Leave all our statues ....ALONE- we don’t want our history, along with all its stories- erases.

Honorable Mayor Walsh, Please do not let angry people tear down the Columbus monument. God-fearing patriots still cherish our heritage and want to leave it for our children. Here is my defense for the Christopher Columbus statue, located in Columbus Circle in downtown Syracuse, erected by my grandfather’s Italian immigrant friends and relatives who were proud of their new citizenship in this country. Jesus was the only perfect person who ever lived. Can we admit that? Every other hero we celebrate wasn’t perfect. And that’s okay, because we don’t venerate them for their perfection. Rather, we honor their accomplishments. We don’t celebrate the perfection of Charles Lindbergh when we acknowledge what he accomplished in crossing the Atlantic. Nor do we suggest that Neil Armstrong led a flawless life when we recall his feat of setting his foot upon the moon. You could say the same about Galileo and the telescope that gave us the understanding of the solar system, Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone, Marconi and the wireless. How about Thomas Edison, Madam Curie, John F. Kennedy and the famous Cuban missile crisis, or Martin Luther King, and so many more I could name. We celebrate their accomplishments, the risks they took, and how God used them to bring blessing to our world and our country. All of those advances were advances for our nation and are worth celebrating! Wars were won by imperfect men and women. How many “flawed lives” were lost in the jungles of Vietnam? During the winter of Valley Forge? On the beaches of Normandy? Do we not honor their sacrifices? How many imperfect police men and women have died in the line of duty, protecting you and me? Shall we not honor them? And how many of you of noble heart reading this, would remain guiltless and unblemished if your lives were held up to public scrutiny? Are you 100% evil, 100% good, or perhaps like the rest of us, a little of both? And does that disqualify you from being hon

Please leave the statue as a reminder of the numerous Italians who gave of their time, talents and money to erect the statue.

Please do not take down the statue.

History is history. Some is nice and some is ugly, but we study history so we don't repeat the ugly.

The statue of Christopher Columbus means more than a tribute to the man himself . It is a tribute to the Italian immigrants who settled here and added greatly to the fabric of life in Syracuse. Let God judge Columbus. Let us judge the sacrifice, the work of our grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins to this land of hope, dreams, and prosperity.
