This is a symbol of Italian American Heritage and represents all the Italian Americans that came over from the boat and worked hard to support their families !!!! This is not a symbol of racism !!!! My son is mixed so I am far from racist !!! My Italian great grandfather poured his blood sweat and tears into helping build this statue !!! If we get rid of every piece of American history because it offends others we will be left with nothing!!! That goes for and is not limited to great literature, art work, music etc.!! I am all for compromise .... however this is not compromise. This is about individuals who feel they are entitled enough to give a list of demands to get whatever they want because of some notion that they suffered in some way shape or form!!! It was their ancestors who suffered and for that my heart is heavy however acting entitled and insisting that all demands be met is not an act of compromise!!! It is an act of selfishness!!! I agree there needs to be change however stripping others of things that hold value to them is not the way and is not the answer !!!!
