This monument has been a part of my life all of my life! I am proud to have a picture of the statue hanging on my wall in the living room of my home. A treasure my dear Mother bought at one of the downtown Arts and Crafts festivals many years ago

I am the fourth generation Syracuse native of Italian descent. My great grand parents were a part of the Christopher Columbus Statue placement. A monument representing their coming to settle here in Syracuse, New York. My grand children are the seventh generation living here in Syracuse, direct descendants of those who chose to erected the statue, elected to make Syracuse there new home. Their actions along with other Italians set forth the establishment of our community, and family roots here in Central New York. They are what the erection of the statue represents as it stands today facing the Cathedral. We do not find the statue offensive. My ancestor's built this community and we live here still as they intended!

The Statue needs to stay! What needs to go is this inept Mayor who is more focused on this nonsense that only serves to divide us especially during a time when we need to focus on what is really important. Syracuse continues to dive deeper and deeper into poverty ( if that’s even possible) under this weak Mayor.
