Is UNLV truly a diverse school? After this semester, UNLV is going to cut the Afro-American Studies Program. The reason it’s being cut is because the current director has received a promotion and there aren’t enough students enrolling in the classes offered. The department is currently looking into hiring someone to fill this position. However, they don’t believe students will enroll in classes, even with a new director. The program informed students majoring in the program, at the last minute that it’s going to be cut. Thus, these students can’t even complete their degree and are told to major in other fields, but that pushes their graduation date back. So we as students have to come together and take a stance and say, “We are in support of keeping the Afro-American Studies Program active at UNLV”.
