Streatham needs to continue to have a proper police police presence and front counter service on the High Road. The local Safer Neighbourhood police teams also need to continue to operate from such a central location.

If the Streatham Police Station must be relocated from its current site, a modern, accessible and visible facility on the High Road must be opened in its place. The new building must also house Streatham's Safer Neighbourhood police teams.

The current police station should not be closed - or put up for sale - until that replacement is confirmed and ready to open.

Without public pressure, we cannot be confident that this will happen.  Already there has been one (shortlived) attempt to advertise the sale of the police station on an estate agent's website. And the Borough Commander and the Mayor's Office of Policing and Crime continue to be publicly silent about an alternate site or a timescale for such a move.

Streatham-ites must not be silent. Gipsy Hill residents have already proved that - with enough noise and effort - the police top brass and the Mayor's advisors will take note of local concerns.

A Police Station is important, and so is having enough police on the streets. The number of police officers in Lambeth has fallen by 20% since 2010, meaning the borough has lost 214 police offices in that time - the biggest reduction in London. That is why we are calling on MOPAC to reverse these cuts and recruit 100 more police for Lambeth.
