Residents of several conservative Indiana towns have been riled up recently by manipulated hidden videos done by a Special Interest Group called "Accuracy in Media" in order to both:
1) take revenge on Republican State Legislators for not backing anti-CRT bills
2) to further the long attack on public education in a push towards voucher use for private education.
Sadly this mess has come to Plainfield, a mostly quiet, peaceful community with a thriving school system. In a time when political rancor had begun to calm down, at least locally, these Special Interest Groups have snuck in and turned friend against friend and neighbor against neighbor. Plainfield had been spared this drama, in my opinion because that is who we are.
Please sign this petition in order to:
1) Keep Plainfield the way it is, where we have different beliefs but we aren’t at each other’s throats about them. We don’t need outsiders coming in playing tricks and engaging in social engineering at our expense, trying to fix something that was not broken.
2) Keep Dr Laura Delvecchio from being fired. We have not seen the entire video yet. Martinsville is suing to do so, I would suggest Plainfield consider this so a proper investigation can be done. Some want her to answer for what they heard her say in the video, fine, then let her.
3) Keep this from getting worse. This may not stop with just the firing of one individual, book bans and other madness could follow.
4) The people calling for Dr Delvecchio to be fired will also be attacking any support our lgbtq students receive, although whether they like it or not this is a public school system, these kids exist, and they deserve to feel welcome and safe just like any other student. They will also attack Social Emotional Learning, although this approach is desperately needed with our persistent bullying challenges and the other mounting stressors our children face. And they will attack Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, even though 1 in 5 kids in our school system are receiving services from the schools. Our special needs and minority students have the right to be included and not be made into political fodder. We can say no, right now. We can let the School Board and Administration know that the ones shouting are not the only ones here.

I keep looking at the comments left on here and it honestly breaks my heart seeing how many neighbors feel like strangers in their own town now because of these videos. This whole thing feels like a fever dream and I just keep waiting for us to wake up and remember that we all basically want the same calm life for our kids anyway. I am trying to keep track of everything happening behind the scenes but the noise is getting so loud that it is hard to focus on anything else.

I am so proud to have my child go there and be a part of more progressive thinking. Nothing should be changed and no one should be fired.
Public funds for public schools. My tax dollars should not be supporting private education and/or narrow minded views. Diversity and inclusion is the hallmark of a healthy society.
My daughters graduated in from PHS in 2012 and 2014, having attended pre-k through grade 12. They experienced a mix of outstanding teachers and classes, along with some that were “meh” which is true of any educational experience. My husband and I are both high school teachers (different corporation and now both retired) so we had a good understanding of how things work. Our experiences were mostly positive and if I had a question or concern, a teacher responded to me immediately and with professionalism. I think this ridiculous “gotcha” video is a symptom of a larger problem and the fact that it aired on Fox News (apparently from what I understand) is all anyone needs to know. Plainfield as a community is what it is, but our biggest concern is for students who may be targeted for any reasons by others students who are learning hate and bigotry at home. If you don’t have kids in the schools anymore (like us) it’s no longer enough to shrug and say “Not my problem. Glad my kids are out of there.”
I feel like i am signing a petition from the 1950s instead of 2023.
I support the use of SEL. I support student access to books that have gay characters and diverse families. I support teaching ALL of history. I do not support book bans
As a second generation graduate of PHS and a granddaughter of a former Plainfield educator, I am disgusted that this is even been discussed. Do we need to treat our administration at Board like race car drivers, requiring them to wear an emblem of the company or individual who has purchased a vote for their special interest group? THIS IS BAD FOR CHILDREN AND IT’S BAD FOR THIS COMMUNITY! I don’t suppose the people who make decisions realize the outside view of this town? If you did, you would realize that, similar to the United States as a whole, Plainfield has become a laughingstock. If that was the end game, congratulations. This community mass produces students who are copies of “perfection” and rarely allows teenagers the freedom to think for themselves. They’re too busy being told what to think, rather than HOW to think. This is the definition of indoctrination, by the way. I am thankful that I got out before all of this mess, and I am grateful that my children have an opportunity to come to school with me where they’re encouraged to think for themselves. I feel so sorry for the children in Plainfield. Your motto of a “Community of Values” was a joke back in the 90s and it has only gotten worse.
Teaching ALL of history is more important than perpetuating people's lies and fears about what would happen if their children learned things that didn't favor white people. What's the point of teaching history if there's important information left out? People can not live their lives and make informed decisions on how they view the world without all of the information. Knowledge is power! Not white people. I'm white, and not racist towards white people. I just believe in the truth.

I have been where the asst. superintendent is with this town. I hope her family doesn’t get threatened like mine did when I made the comment about white privilege in a training session at work.
