Keep SMU Students Cool
As of April 1st, SMU has locked dorm room thermostats at temperatures between 72 and 76 degrees. This means that students will no longer be able to set their thermostats below (or above) these temperatures. Studies have shown that lower temperatures are an absolute necessity for a good night’s sleep. The Wall Street Journal reports that thermostats set at 65 degrees, or even lower, are optimal. The body’s temperature needs to drop by about 2 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit to initiate sleep. Not getting enough sleep affects student’s moods and can also have long-term health consequences. Sign this petition to tell SMU that additional profits are not enough to approve sacrificing the health and performance of the student body. SMU students should come first.
