I look forward to the polkas every Saturday morning as I do my weekend chores. Have been listening since I moved to this area in 1988. Would like to see some hours on Saturday. Would miss them.

The Polish community has been a faithful and loyal group. They have supported this station for many, many years. Please be aware of the simple demands of your listeners. A little love goes a long way. Your listeners deserve to keep their heritage flame burning, whether it be through politics, education, or MUSIC.

I wanna polka

To WMUA / UMASS administration: First - "Thank You" for your fantastic efforts in promoting/playing Polka Music for the past ~40 years! This should be a point of pride that your radio station has supported such ethnically-rich music to a community that obviously appreciates it for so long. Second - Please reconsider any thoughts of discontinuing/reducing the Polka Music programming - as this would have many negative consequences, including (but not limited to) the following: - No longer allowing two fantastic, long-time hosts (IPA Hall of Fame Member Billy Belina & Mitch Moskal) to air their Polka shows. These professionals, who have many community ties and support, have earned the right to be treated more respectfully. - Dramatically reducing the Polka-related airtime does not seem to fit the UMASS administration's stated goal to "better meet the educational mission of UMass" considering Polka Music's vast history and cultural importance to the Polish-American community. One would think familiarizing students to such music would be of great benefit from a "Cultural Studies" perspective? - Subjecting Polka Music to a terrible trend (that has been occurring now for quite some time) of "devaluing" the entire genre. Whenever a radio station reduces the airtime provided to Polka Music...when the GRAMMY Award for "Best Polka Album" is discontinued...whenever we allow "what's popular at the moment" to prosper at the expense of a culturally important art form such as Polka Music...the result is that Polka remains "(perhaps) the most misunderstood, misrepresented, and mocked popular musical form in American history," thus contributing to the narrative that Polka Music is a dying genre. It is my hope that this decision is not yet "final" and that the voices of the public can be heard by an open-minded group of administrators. Please do the "right thing" here - continue the treasured tradition of playing great Polka Music on your radio station and be
