Keep Pitbulls In Armistead Gardens
1500 residents of Armistead Gardens have been told they have to get rid of their pitbull and cross-bred pitbulls TODAY. If they don't comply, they face legal action, including being kicked out of their homes. In a decision written by Judge Alan M. Wilner, the court stood by its finding about purebred pit bulls being dangerous but canceled its reference to cross-breds. The Maryland state court has further shown its ignorance and with this ruling. By narrowing the law to "pure bred pit bulls" they might as well have named unicorns instead. Let me repeat that. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PURE BRED PIT BULL. There are pure bred American Pit Bull Terriers. Pure bred Standard Poodles. Pure Breed American Staffordshire Terriers. Pure bred Chihuahuas. Pure bred Staffordshire Bull Terriers. There is no genetic test to define a pit bull. There is no comprehensive definition, legally, genetically, or professionally, of a pit bull. The pit bull dog "type" can include as little as one to hundreds of breeds of dogs, including English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Mastiffs in some municipalities.(1) It is this reason that Armistead Gardens has no right to request owners of all cross-bred pitbulls to be removed from the property. Any change in the pet agreement should apply to all dogs not just a particular breed. In signing this petition you are agreeing that Armistead Gardens does not have the legal right to request owners remove their pitbulls from the property based on an outdated court ruling.
