Taking away assigned spits won't reduce tardies, it will actually increase tardies as students now will drive around and look for spots which will take longer. Additionally, there will be more accidents and thus still more tardies!!

I'm especially concerned about making new drivers compete for parking spots. And I am not at all clear on how this change would help to reduce tardiness. If anything, having to look for a spot when the lot is almost full could make more students late for class.

Keep the permits and assigned spots.
Allow students to enter the school at the lower level, rather than making everyone go through the front door - that will help reduce tardies.

That there is even a few for an asset that has been already purchased by us taxpayers is bad enough. To add this illogical policy is salt in the proverbial wound.

as a former student of Stone Bridge I know the importance of assigned spots and how frustrating/dangerous the parking lot will get if students aren't assigned their spaces. I'm in a garage at my university and let me inform you about how often fender benders and fights are without assigned spots, now imagine a high school parking lot. Student tardiness will increase with this change as well, not decrease, because students will probably still be out in the parking lot trying to find parking if the spots aren't already assigned.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Those that are tardy will be tardy regardless of the situation...closer parking spot or not. It's obvious that there are more negatives than positive in changing the parking policy.

Trying to get into Stone Bridge in the morning is already a nightmare. The number of cars coming and going already is chaotic. I don't see how a change in the policy and going first come first serve solves any of the issues. I believe this new policy will create more chaos and more accidents. I've almost been hit once or twice by other parents rushing to drop their kids off! The underlying problem is the layout of the entrance and parking to the school. The bus entrance should be completely separate from where students and parents enter the parking lot. Parent drop off should not be through the parking lot, it should have a separate easy in, easy out drop off area. Kids are late because of the backup trying to get in at the same entrance as the busses. They are late because drop off by parents is in the parking lot instead of at a separate spot that does not require parents to have to drive through the lot and deal with the busses and student parking.

Keep assigned spaces. I don't see how this will help alleviate tardies. Kids will still know they can park even without an assigned space because they've bought a pass and the policy doesn't address the main causes of tardiness like oversleeping and checking social media. This policy will however cause massive chaos in the form of accidents, speeding, and fights in the lot as kids race to claim a spot. Keep assigned spots!

The petitioners make very good points. It is unclear what problem the administration is trying to solve with this change in approach, and the ensuing chaos inevitable in the already frenetic morning rush.
As parking spots have been priced at $200/school year (!) by the County to raise funds outside the legislative process- reserved locations seem to be the only reasonable method for assignment. If the school wishes to offer a less aggregious price for students, perhaps they could consider leaving the close reserved parking spots as they are, and carve out a section at the back of the lot with a number of generally available spots for first-come access, and price/police those with a lower financial burden to these high school students (and their parents).

I paid the full $200 in November this year and got spot 378, which is basically like parking on Hay Road. I've parked there all year, no matter how early I get to school/how empty the lot is, knowing that next year I'd have my car right off the bat in August of senior year and would get a close spot, having done my time in the nosebleed spots. But if anybody can buy a pass in November or later next year, take those good spots I've been patiently waiting for, and cite school policy when anybody points out how messed up that is, then something's seriously not right fam
