Let's maintain free parking for Hollingdean residents

Yes, it does move the problem on which is not good. But other areas have already done this to us and we are now in the front line. Ask people who are in the CPZ whether they like it. They say yes - and none of the areas have voted to remove them. CPZ are a problem - they spread outwards and the council makes money. But there doesn't seem to be any other viable options.... Parking is bad now - and will get worse once we have CPZs on 3 sides....

I do not believe that this scheme will make any difference to parking in the area. If the biggest parking issues are after 8pm then the issue is resident parking and this will not be reduced by permit parking, all that will happen is residents will now be paying the council for the pleasure of parking outside their own houses in an area that is not central to town or train stations.

I am fully against paid parking in the Hollingdean area. It had been seen in othee areas of the city to not solve the parking problem. It simply pushes other people into other areas.

By increasing the range of the car permit zone it just pushes the parking issues into the next streets. The problem isn’t resolved; it just moves. If

What can we do when the area is used by people/companies as free parking? For example, each day an employee of Shaws glass (who lives in a CPZ themselves) parks their black Alfa in Hollingdean Terrace, Roedale or Dudley (they move between them). They leave this parked all day and then take their Shaws Glass branded van and go to work. In the afternoon they then return, park their van and drive their car back to their controlled parking zone. So they have nothing to do with our neighbourhood yet are permanently using one space. They have been asked not to, but persist. And they are not alone. So without CPZ enforcement, how do we stop people and companies like this?

As I mentioned on the leaflet, looking at the history of the area, the CPZ has been the cause not the cure. Anonymous mentions, quite wisely, that a viable solution has not been presented. Well, following the meeting in 2017 I would have been delighted to participate in finding a solution but no further meetings were organised. I have seen some pretty good compromises that might alleviate the problem but the fundamental problem is that CPZ should not be considered as a street-by-street issue but should be open to an open community review where there is a sense of community responsibility to discuss and explore alternatives to basic Resident Parking Charges. I am particularly concerned about the plan to reserve spaces within our area for staff at the Recycling Center. Surely it is the responsibility of a business to provide parking for their employees within their own premises. This clearly needs an open discussion to inform people of the options so that they can review the facts before signing a petition. Otherwise, we may be on our way to another local Brexit!!!

We in Hollingdean do not need controlled and monitored resisdent's parking. In nearly all areas of Hollingdean there is no problem with parking near or very near to where you live. The pushing of permits further away from the centre is pushing another problem onto resisdent's who currently have no issues. It seems to be becoming a money making business. Instead of a blanket parking permit solution, a more thoughtful holistic solution may be needed in some areas. Parking permits will change Hollingdean forever.

I am against having to pay to park outside my house. The only reason this is happening is because the council are greedy and have pushed the boundaries each time a new set of paid parking is installed. Hollingdean is not central Brighton and should be left as a suburb, like Hollingbury and Patchham.

I got the yellows lines put in at the bottom of Dudley road after getting in touch with a councillor,it’s dangerous when you have to have the whole of your car in the road before you can see to get out. Trouble is everyone moans but we all sit back and let the council do this to us all it is is a money earner for the council yet again car drivers being used as cash cows, well sorry I’m not for permit parking, the other petition is very miss leading saying £65 pound a year, you only have to look online to see what it’s going to cost.

No need for permit scheme, especially at the inflated cost brighton choose to charge (I.e. charge is higher than cost of running scheme)

I do not support this petition. While I don't want to have to pay to park on the road that I live on, this is now becoming a necessity caused by the many issues listed here. This petition states the need to look for a better solution. Well the public meeting didn't find one and neither have any of the other areas before they voted to introduce CPZs. And many of them tried very hard to do this (including frustrated residents taking enforcement into their own hands and vandalising vehicles. We have seen some of this and we don't want more as this blights the postcode and will cost us more than the permit in increased insurance). It is also interesting that no areas which have introduced a CPZ have then voted to remove them - so while they are not perfect they do work. So currently there is only one solution and that is a controlled parking zone. I agree that the costs are too high and the council makes a huge profit. We could campaign for introduction with lower costs (eg. free for certain groups, lower cost for others) - but without any other solutions then a CPZ is the way to go I have just had to park on another road mid afternoon as Hollingdean Terrace is full of cars. So while parking is worse at night there are still problems during the day. The development has already happened so, unless we knock houses down and make people homeless we have to live with more properties. Also, with increasing wealth, there are more cars per household. Vans - most are not lived in but are owned by people who live in CPZs who use them occasionally and want free parking for them. Residents parking will reduce traffic; we will not have those using the area for free parking or having to drive around searching for a space. Again, that's happened elsewhere and you can see the free spaces, including evening and nighttime, in nearby roads within CPZs So, while I'd love a magic solution which solves the parking issues without permits, I can't see one and this petition d

I'm against paying £130 (more to come?) for residents parking, why can't this be part of our Council Tax? I'm all for parking restrictions which favour residents but I do not feel we should pay for this. Howard Funnell, Davey Drive.

The corners are a safety concern I'd agree, but what about the lack of parking everywhere else? The fact is that the council just don't care about policing areas where there aren't enforced parking areas - there's no ROI in it for them. There are for example businesses who leave work vans, members of the public who leave camper vans, people who lives in vans on these streets. We need a solution for all of these issues so that it's possible for residents to park outside their own home. It seems like this page is a campaign to shut down a possible solution (introducing parking permits), without suggesting any alternative solutions. I'm not trying to sound accusatory by the way, it's good to start a healthy debate and hopefully we can get some alternative ideas out of it (if there are any).

Put double yellow lines on corners and junctions to prevent inconsiderate parking there and ensure the Civil Enforcement Officers visit and enforce the area regularly

This street will become permit parking at some point regardless of the other poll, so that poll is just bringing forward the inevitable in order to improve the state of parking (by stopping people who don't live anywhere near from parking, commuters parking there etc.). I totally understand why you wouldn't want to pay the council, but what alternatives are there apart from introducing permit parking?
