we actually did it because they just confirmed the new funding for parent accommodation at the maternity hospitals. its huge to know no more parents will be forced away from their preemies because of hotel costs. thanks for staying with me on this one.

In Ireland, every year there are over 4,500 babies born premature.
If you have a premature born outside Dublin and if your baby is very premature or very ill, your baby will likely be transported up to one of the Neo-natal Intensive Care Units (NICU’s) in one of the three Dublin Maternity Hospitals, i.e. The Rotunda, The Coombe or National Maternity Hospital for specialist medical care. A very premature baby can spend weeks or months in intensive care, before they are able to go home or be transported back to their local hospital. The problem faced by parents in Ireland, is that there is no accommodation for parents in the Dublin maternity hospitals. Unfortunately, the maternity hospitals are at maximum capacity and they cannot facilitate mothers or fathers to stay with their baby.
Parents must sort out private accommodation like local hotels or B & B’s. You can imagine the costs of paying for weeks/months for any type of private accommodation, the costs are astronomical and many mothers can't afford to be with their baby.The right to stay with a premature baby is taken from parents if they cannot afford to pay for private temporary accommodation. This is an injustice against families of premature babies.

If you have a sick baby or child in a children's hospital, there is parent accommodation but unfortunately if you have a premature baby in one of the neo-natal intensive care units, you have no support, no help, and no accommodation. So parents are separated from their little sick premature baby, when the babyreally needs the love, touch and feel of their mother and likewise the mothers instinct is to be with her baby. We know of parents who have slept in cars or sold every valuable they have, just to be close to their little baby, and some parents can’t even do this and they are forced to stay miles away while their baby is alone. This is such a sad and difficult situation and it needs to be resolved.Every parent in Ireland should have the right to be with their baby.
Please sign our petition so we can lobby our politicians, the government & the HSE to stop the unfair treatment of 100’s of parents in Ireland every year. Stand up against this discrimination.

It was heartbreaking lying in this big room all by myself, hearing all the other mothers with their babies. The sound of the 6am flight to Amsterdam over the hospital, was the best, as it meant someone would be coming soon to wheel me down to ICU.
I was lucky enough to have ratibes to stay with for my 8 weeks in Dublin. I saw one mother travel on the train from Galway to bring breast milk and see her baby with 4 kids at home. One day they were operating on another baby in the room so she had to go home without seeing her child. This needs attention urgently.
I support this petition 100%. I had twins at 30 + 3 and live in Dublin. I live just 40 mins from the hospital and even that separation was hard so I cannot imagine how hard it must be to live in a different county
Accommodation should be available for parents, it’s a disgrace that it isn’t currently. They have so much to deal with, without the additional stress of finding somewhere to stay
I had a premature baby at 26 weeks & thankfully lived within driving distance of the hospital. I can only imagine how tough it would be to add the added issue of accommodation & distance from your family while trying to care for your baby.
Very necessary and essential petition. It is unacceptable that premature children do not have the right to be in the prescence of their parent 24 hours a day
Parents and babies should be together.

It is barbaric that this situation is still going on - skin to skin with even touching a finger tip means the world to both parties, to be there at the ready if anything happens in a neo natal's babies stay as it can change so rapidly.
