If you're paying the exorbitant price to live downtown, and aren't there for the nightlife, buy yourself a much larger or extravagant pad elsewhere. Shutting down live music in these areas is ridiculous.

If this sort of thing happens to Austin and word gets out about how uptight of a city we are becoming, the title of "Music Capital of the World" will go to another city without question.

Seems that people move to a street which has built around entertainment and then complain about the very thing the area was built on. There are plenty of suburban house's to appease those type of people. The very fabric of the great town is being systematically detroyed by the influx of people moving here.

Hello, I would first like to thank you for considering our petition to continue music for entertainment during business hours here on Rainey Street. Austin Texas is my home and I consider myself a proud local. I transplanted to this fine city seven years ago and it was the culture, entertainment, opportunity, and of course the great celebration of the arts and music which was so alluring that I had to be a part of what was going on here. So many others experience what this city has to offer and are so enamored that they feel they have to move here as well. For decades this city has considered itself a social hub for Texas and the Live Music Capitol of the world. I know that arts and entertainment are not the sole source of attraction for everyone who moves here but it is a large one. I feel it is very important to recognize and honor the social and fiscal contributions that the arts and entertainment bring to this city and that they have been a huge motivator for entrepreneurs and businesses to invest in Austin, creating a fiscal influx to the city’s infrastructure and huge motivator in job creation. Downtown Austin has been home to a nightlife culture for a large span of time now and taking that away from the people and businesses providing social outlets I feel will cause a trickledown effect rendering the nightlife over policed and underappreciated for the contributions they provide to the city. Rainey Street is a growing destination entertainment district for visitors and locals alike. It is currently on the verge of losing a piece of its vital charm that would come as negative blow to Austin patrons and business owners. I would like for you all to re-evaluate the current sound ordinance and know that many of us feel that it is important to keep this a thriving social scene for the citizens of Austin and the city of Austin. Let’s keep Austin responsibly entertained.
