Masks are an easy, effective way to help stop the spread of a highly infectious, deadly disease. (Granted, they are not fun to wear, but they are easy to wear and necessary.) Please change your optional stance to a required position. Thank you.

My niece is a student in this district, with chronic asthma and not yet old enough for vaccination. Michigan is the 5th highest in the nation for COVID cases in children. Returning to school without masks is irresponsible and shortsighted. As educators, you are tasked with the SAFETY of our children. Always. Why are you forgoing safety for comfort? I'm grateful the district I teach in takes this seriously. The sad thing is that your decision making still effects me because my family lives in the Walled Lake district. No coming up to visit them since you are creating multiple cesspools to help increase community spread. Have you not been paying attention to the schools in other states who opened the exact same way you plan to and a week later are shut down due to hundreds of cases? How many students will need to be hospitalized for you to realize the error in this decision? If you answer anything more than zero, you should be removed from the position of being entrusted with the SAFETY of our kids.

As a healthcare provider, I agree that students should return to school, but with the safety of masks for ALL students and staff. Mask up and get vaccinated when you can!

As a Grandparent, I find this decision concerning. With the new surge and the ever increasing warnings to wear masks, along with the slow acceptance of vaccines, things could be even more perilous in the coming weeks. I realize the kids are desperate to get back to normal - as are we all - but we have not yet gotten this pandemic under control enough to pretend it’s no longer there.

Please follow the CDC guidelines and require masks for all children. The health and safety of our kids is of utmost importance. My grandchildren are WL students. They are vaccinated but there is so much uncertainty around the variant even the CDC isn’t sure how long they are protected.

Until all school age kids can be vaccinated and vaccinations required masks should be mandatory.

Without taking proper precautions, you're exposing these children to preventable organ damage, preventable chronic illness, preventable suffering that may be with them for decades. It is utterly irresponsible not to protect young lives, especially when many children may have undiagnosed immune conditions, asthma, or heart problems. Simple measures like masking and distancing can save lives and spare a lifetime of harm from these young folks whose attendance in school is mandatory during a preventable global pandemic. Many of these children live with elderly family members, immunocompromised adults, or infant siblings. It's not just the lives of the children you're risking, but the lives of their families, the lives of their teachers, and the chance of the virus co tinuing to spread enough to evolve into a vaccine resistant strain. The schools have a responsibility to protect the lives in their care, and ignoring the CDC and WHO is not honoring that responsibility.

Do the right thing! Listen to the experts! Doctors only recommend you take your medicines, they don’t mandate it! Apple the same analogy!

As a grandparent of a grandchild under 12 I feel masks need to be worn. Nothing has really not changed . Look at the number of times school shut back down after opening last year. And they were not at full capacity. Please help protect those that can’t be vaccinatef

Please give me the opportunity to have my children attend in-person schooling safely until they are able to be vaccinated! “Every Child, Every Day”
