Urgent! To all Dresden community members, and parents & guardians of students at DACS : LKDSB has recently voiced an intent to close the Arts/drama room at Dresden Area Central School in an effort to reduce costs. While this effort is understandable, other options need to be explored as drama and the arts are an important aspect of our children’s education, and not something that can be efficiently taught off a cart or out of a bin. Our drama teacher is dedicated, energetic, and an asset to our learning community and has even offered to do the cleaning of the room herself.

However, she cannot build this bridge between administration and our children alone, so we need to add our voices to let the Board know that it is important to us that her Drama room stays open & accessible to our children.

Studies show that drama & the arts not only enriches students lives via building self-esteem and confidence, memory & concentration, aiding with imagination & problem-solving, it also teaches empathy, communication skills, and the importance of cooperation. It provides a place of inclusion, equality, and expression and we feel that it needs to be prioritized, not locked away.
