My ancestors nae is on that monument. Removing a monument does not change the history.

It's hard to believe that this is even being discussed in Burke County! The statue is our history. It is a memorial to those who fought and died for what they believed. Most Confederate soldiers worth fighting for the relief of taxes put upon them through the Morrill Act. The statue /Memorial is there also as a reminder of the positive progress that has been made in this country. The sanitation of our culture is wrong! Why there is an effort to ruin this memory is beyond me. There are so many other things that are so much more important that need to be addressed! Leave the statue alone! Don't start trouble. Removal of the statue will only widen the gap between blacks and whites. Think about who's really behind this and why it's being done. Enough social unrest!

I think the confederate monument needs to be left alone. I'm too surprised & disappointed that the big city of Morganton just wants to up & move this monument that's been a part of history that has been around longer than you have & that it's an icon too. Please leave it alone !!
