Orkney Islands Council have announced that they will close the Orkney Language unit in June 2017.
This is a crucial service to many children from all over Orkney, we need to stop this from happening. Please support us and sign this petition so we can force Orkney Islands Council to overturn this decision. We need to fight for the children of Orkney who attend the Language Unit and the many children on the waiting list. The service is in huge demand and needs to be expanded, NOT CLOSED or 'restructured'.

Reaching the next milestone of two hundred and fifty signatures will provide the tangible evidence we require to challenge the council directly. Please continue to press forward as we push for the preservation of this essential service for our children.

I attended the language unit as a child & know many children who currently use it! Why take something away that is so much needed that people have to wait extensive times to get on the books! This just proves the need for it in our community.
My daughter has only just started at the Language Unit, and I am devastated at the proposed restructuring of it. It will not be as effective for my daughter if the service was delivered at her nursery.
My son loves the Language Unit and it works. Having specialists or extra support in his school could never compare to the intensive learning experience, the expertise and support he receives at the unit.
As a former SLT working in schools I referred some children to the Orkney Language Unit because I did not have the time to deliver the specialist intensive therapy they required within the primary school situation.
This is a very valuable unit for the children in orkney, my son has been attending for the last two yrs he wouldnt be where he is today if he hadnt had been able to attend the unit. Please reconsider and keep the language unit open
I would love to see this unit stAy open it is do important for young children.

The strength of local feeling about this issue clearly demonstates how wrong the council are in making the decision to 'restructure' the service. OIC is making some very poor judgements, trying to save a few quid by jeapardising the future chances of our bairns.
