Don't let the hydroponic business interests ruin the integrity of organic. Keep the soil at the center of the NOP standards!

Please keep the soil in organic. One of the main issues we face as organic farmers is our consistent endeavour to create better soil. With 1/3 of our land in fallow every year, the yield per crop is lower than in "conventional" farming. If hydroponics are given organic status the playing field is skewed and in my opinion the nutritional level of the crops will be lowered.

USDA should NOT certify hydroponics as organic. Don't mask how it is grown, soil adds nutrients and health to our food.

Please keep the soil in organic. It is important to me and people that I love that the integrity of the Organic label is preserved. These truly organic 'dirt' farmers work hard to balance a whole natural system, a huge part of that is maintaining the soil health, which is no small feat. And as a consumer, I expect not to be mislead by product advertising, hydroponic is it's own thing. It is imperative to our society that we are able to trust the businesses which we interact with and I think labeling transparency goes a long way with folks, especially folks looking to buy organics in the first place.

Hydroponics should be allowed to be labeled "pesticide free", but NOT "Organic"!

Label it what it is. Soil(organic), Aquaponic, or hydro. Don't bundle all these methods under a Term "organic".. give the soil farmers organic. . Make Aqua and Hydro market it as what it is.. Hydro or Aquaponic. Let the consumer decide with their wallet and their taste buds. Don't mask how it was grown.

hydroponic is not organic! As an organic farmer I find it disrespectful and ignorant to even start to consider the two different menthods of growing as equal. Organic farming is focused on the soil and there is no soil in hydro! I fully support hydroponic growing in itself, especially when using sustainable methods but it should not be in the same tier as traditional organic farming.

We are only beginning to understand the importance of soil fertility in organic farm production, and cannot afford to have federal guidelines and standards weakened. Do not include hydroponic food production in the definition of organic, I beg you.

As certified organic dairy farmers since 1996 it's apparent that the quality and health of soil is of fundamental importance to the vitality of our organic cattle and pastures!

Organic is in the soil, hydroponics isn't. Industrial food growers are trying to derail the meaning of 'organic' and defraud consumers who think they're getting the real thing. No hydroponic organic!

Why does Hydroponics want to get in under the mantle of being organic? So they can charge more money for their product. Let them find their own nomenclature as they do NOT belong to what being organic always has stood for: nourish the soil, therefore the plants, therefore the people and planet.

please keep the integrity of the word organic. make sure that products labeled organic are produced in soil with sustainable fertilizers in a biological based system. please do not allow growers using adapted hydroponic techniques to be labeled organic. the fertilizers and energy inputs to produce hydroponics don't fit with the meaning of the word.

There ain't no beneficial microorganisms in hydroponics. If I want hydroponics, I eat some kelp or open a can of sardines. Currently, "organic" means no GMOs or RoundUp. I want it to continue to mean "grown in soil" instead of hydroponic. If the honest hydroponic farmers want to brag about no GMOs and no pesticides, they can say, "Hydroponically grown without GMOs and without pesticides." Leaving out the word "hydroponic" is just plain lying.
