Keep Ocean City Safe: Keep Firefighter-Paramedics on 24 Hour Shifts

I fully support their stance and there has been no legitimate reason proposed to move them from their current 24 hour shift.

I am in favor of keeping 24 hours shifts for all OCFD personnel.

The 24/72 shift has been working quite well in the majority of metropolitan areas across the nation and in THIS state.

The 24 hour shift rotation allows you to be well rested and WANTING to come back to work.

The current 24/72 schedule is the best schedule for employees, the town, and its citizens. It allows the employee to rest between shifts and be ready to perform their duties at the highest level of competency during their next shift. Changing the shift structure would cause many quality part-time and possibly full-time employees to not be able to work here anymore. This schedule has worked very well for so long, why change it now?

I would like to work as much as possible but going away from the 24/72 will limit the amount of time I will work.

I currently work a 24/72 rotation and it gives me time to put into Ocean City on my 3 days off. With them trying to switch to a different schedule, then you will lose a lot of good providers. The city holds them self to a very high standard when hiring employees. If they switch the shift to something different, I believe they will lose quality of providers. Why try to reinvent the wheel when the wheel has worked for years?

The current 24 hour shifts allow me to work and go to paramedic school, not being able to work 24 hour shifts would make it difficult to go to paramedic school and have full availability for the OCFD.

If the city differs from the 24/72 schedule, I'll quit as well.

This will be my 9th summer as a part time employee for the Town of Ocean City Fire Department. Most of the part time employees working for Ocean City have full time employment in other jurisdictions working the current 24/72 shift model and we all work our opposite shift in Ocean City. Changing the schedule to anything other than 24/72 will cause many part time and even full time employees to reconsider their employment status with the Ocean City Fire Department.

It's a shame to see such an amazing city crippled like it is. Terminating a 24 hour shift will be detrimental to quality Fire/EMS protection. We have the best employees in the State of Maryland and you will see these men and women leave, long before their time.

Changing the current shift schedule will be very detrimental to the Town of Ocean City and to the citizens we serve.

This will cause a negative impact beyond all imagination. I seriously hope the city understands not only the loss of employees they will suffer but the effects that will have the citizens it serves.

It would be in the Town's, Citizen's, and employees best interest to continue the current 24/72 work schedule.

If OC ends up going away from 24 hour shifts, I will be seeking other part time employment.

Makes no sense why they are even thinking about this idea.
