Keep music in Mill Valley schools

Music and the arts provides a well rounded education and with encouragement from teachers and parents, students playing a musical instrument can build pride and confidence. Musical education is also likely to develop better communication for students.

Cutting funding for music education is just plain wrong. I'd like to see the District proposing alternative cuts elsewhere (e.g. technology, iPads) if budget is the concern so that the parent community can discuss what is more or less important for their kids.

It is vitally important we keep music in our schools! It’s been so important for my son’s development and school experience. If we cut the Arts, what does that say about us?

I have lived in the Marin community since 1961 and music in the public schools has been and continues to be important for all students!

For many kids, music with one of the amazing MVSD music teachers is the highlight of their day!

The orchestra program led by Phoebe Dong is one of the highlights of MVSD. Please keep supporting this wonderful program and all of the music offerings!

Music in the schools is vey important and should be funded, not cut. Music education is a lifelong benefit that should be part of every literate person’s body of knowledge.

I live and work in Mill Valley, and I’m a musician. It is absolutely essential to have music in our schools!!

Humanities, to include music is one of the cores of quality human existence

The current music program is such an amazing opportunity for our children, helps balance their education and gives them an opportunity that is invaluable. Please don't take this away from them.

I hope Mill Valley students have the chance to continue to benefit from the current, excellent arts programs and not a watered-down version.

Music is an important part of a child’s education.

Music (and arts) is not a second-class citizen. It is a must for well-rounded education and citizens. Kids love them. We have nothing but wonderful experiences about this program. Please think long-term. I have no doubt that MV will come up with a creative solution for resources. “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. Please work to find an agreeable solution that does not degrade the options/opportunities offered to our kids. The current music program value is beyond measurable.

More hours for music!!

sell the iPads and put that money towards music! As a parent of a MVSD child, I'd much rather see the school ditch the iPads (our kids will have plenty of time to stare at a computer screen in their lifetime) and trade it for playing and learning music!

Please keep the orchestra program alive by allowing small group instruction in 4th grade and after-school rehearsals!

I'm sure there are details I'm not aware of but as Kiddo funds 100% of the music program this seems a non-starter to me. Parents graciously donate to Kiddo to provide services (music, arts, PE, etc) that the district can't finance. This proposed action is a complete breach of trust with the parents who are underwriting not only the music program but other Kiddo sponsored programs.

Please keep our wonderful music programs. The kids benefit and love them.
