Final supporters
The Mill Valley School District is weighing cost-saving measures that could impact music education in Mill Valley's elementary and middle schools. The exact changes are only in proposal stage now, and the district and music teachers are working together on an agreeable solution. Please sign this petition to support music in our schools. Please come to the school board meeting on Thursday March 14th at 4:30 at MVMS. All are welcome! The finance presentation likely won't begin until 5pm or later.

Instruments should be introduced at an early age; the earlier the better. My children were able to experience the viola and trumpet through Mill Valley schools. Please allow the younger children to have the same gift. ***Would love to see a marching band someday***
My son has participated in elementary at Old Mill, and now at MVMS. His musical education gives him something to master outside of sports and has been invaluable to his development. And playing in an orchestra is such a rare experience for a child (difficult to duplicate). Please do not cut this program.
My fourth grader has developed such a love of the violin and music under Phoebe Dong's instruction, and the dedicated attention that the small class size allows has been crucial to her learning and development. A cut to the music program would hurt so many children in our school district. Please keep this wonderful program.
Please help save the music programs for the kids. We’ve been glad to see our Kiddo dollars put to work there. Not everyone in our community can afford super expensive after school sports and music is a wonderful program for all children.
We need MORE music, not less. Our music/band/orchestra/chorale teachers are amazing and put a tremendous amount of time and energy into our program. My kid has blossomed and found “his people” in the band program.
Music and the arts provides a well rounded education and with encouragement from teachers and parents, students playing a musical instrument can build pride and confidence. Musical education is also likely to develop better communication for students.
Cutting funding for music education is just plain wrong. I'd like to see the District proposing alternative cuts elsewhere (e.g. technology, iPads) if budget is the concern so that the parent community can discuss what is more or less important for their kids.

sell the iPads and put that money towards music! As a parent of a MVSD child, I'd much rather see the school ditch the iPads (our kids will have plenty of time to stare at a computer screen in their lifetime) and trade it for playing and learning music!
