Mathews Elementary is more than just a school. It is a place where our children come to learn and grow, becoming empowered with the knowledge and skills they need to begin successful careers as students. Every faculty and staff members is vital to that process. From the Principal and Vice Principal, to the dedicated teachers and para-professionals, everyone who works there has an important role to play in the development of each child in the school.
None touch the lives of so many children though as our two beloved custodians, Mr. Cleo and Mr. Brown. They have worked tirelessly at Mathews Elementary for almost 30yrs. From a kind word, to a joke and a smile- these two gentlemen have integrated their way into the hearts of the children and become a fixture at our school. They have comforted children who are grieving, made a child laugh when they have had a bad day and have shared in the schools many successes. In short, Mathews Elementary would not be the school family it is without Mr. Brown and Mr. Cleo.
It is because of this that we, the parents of Mathews Elementary School, respectfully ask that the Muscogee County School Board of Education reconsider the proposal to remove Mr. Brown and Mr. Cleo from their position as elementary school custodians. We want to keep Mathews Elementary as it is, a family and would like Mr. Brown and Mr. Cleo to remain at Mathews Elementary for as long as they wish. With nearly three decades of service to Mathews, we believe that it would honor them and us if they remained where they have served the children of Muscogee County for so long and so tirelessly.
Please support our efforts by signing the petition below and calling or writing to the Muscogee County School Board of Education. If you would like to attend the board meeting in support of this petition please come March 27th @6pm to Public Education Center 2960 Macon Rd.

These two gentleman was there when I attended 25 plus years ago. My daughter now attends Mathews and speaks of them frequently about how they are her friends. The first week in a school both of them welcomed her as part of the family. Keep them here
I meet these 2 gentlemen at an event the school had for the kids last year. I can tell you these 2 men love these kids just as much as the teachers do. It will be hard to replace this kind of dependable, respectful, kind, love for their job & the kids.
They watched over my sons after their brother died. The Murphy boys were in good hands. My sons spoke of these fine men often. We still have the artwork that Mr Cleo made for them. I urge you to listen to the voices of the Mathew's family before you make a decision.
Young children need as many trusted adults as possible. Taking away the custodians and putting complete strangers in their place is absolutely ridiculous! School board please leave the elementary schools with their trusted adults!
These men have been part of children's lives for years. Decisions about finances is essentially a decision about people. Who do you want in your schools with your children? I want people that care. Mr. Brown and Mr. Cleo are part of the Mathews Family.
I went to Mathews many years ago and everytime I saw them during lunch they always had a smile on their face and it made me happy.
My most precious memories as a child come form my attendance at this school almost 46 years ago. It was like none other and that still stands true today!

These guys where the heart and soul of Mathews. My wife was a teacher there and I know how much they helped her and they protected the kids and teachers. They performed above and beyond their job description every day and were the most valuable members of the staff.
