Mr. Luscombe is the best. Excellent math teacher, dedicated baseball coach and man of God. Feel like an explanation is owed to parents why he would not receive his contract next year. DMC would not be the same without him. Fighting to keep Luscombe!!

Mr luscombe is hands down one of the best teachers ever to have taught at DMC. He made math fun and made me actually want to learn, which is the point of teaching. He deserves to teach at DMC until he retires because he loves the kids that go there and he loves that school. I'll be praying for you Mr luscombe that you will know the path to choose and that you can continue to impact students lives until you are ready to retire.

Mr. Luscombe provided me with a solid foundation of mathematics that I have continued to use in my college education & into my career as a nurse. I’m truly saddened to hear of his contract not being renewed. He made a huge impact in my high school experience. I know he had the same impact on others as well. A loss to the students, a loss to the school, a loss to the community. Please reconsider.

What a cruel April fools joke. Especially when April Fools comes on Easter. Wait a minute. You say this is not a joke? The most loyal teacher in the history of D.M.C.S is not deserving of a contract? Loyalty is so close to love in the dictionary they almost mean the same. The examples of loyalty I have witnessed this man exhibit over my years of teaching with him would fill a whole new Bible on the day we worship our risen Savior. Mr. Luscombe has shown great love to his own two children as a single parent, his late wife as a loving caregiver, and thousands of students and athletes. I will never forget him writing a personal letter to all the boys in the high school encouraging them to come out for track no matter what their talent. Mr. Luscombe always taught in math that what you do on the left side you have to do on the right. I highly suggest those who made this difficult decision compare his alleged transgressions on the left side of the ledger with all these comments on the right. I will continue to pray for this situation. I pray the students of Mr. Luscombe (past and present) will consider doing this as a peaceful rally and I would love to join you. I will always consider it a great honor to have taught with Mr. Luscombe and that he taught my children. On this glorious Easter Day we should never forget that Jesus loves Mr Luscombe along with the rest of us, even those who made this decision" And the greatest of these is love" Mr.Roland DMCS teacher 1979-1999

I am tremendously disappointed in this situation on so many levels. A decision like this was not one person’s decision. There have been many changes that have been concerning that includes Board members qualifications. I am so thankful to all that have stood up including those that could not reveal their identity. This situation is a cumulative effect of history. So, the changes that lay ahead need to be God lead and not those that feel right. Anything of this magnitude was known to have this push back, so my question was why would the decision makers open a wound without appropriate resolution. Or is this resolution acceptable. I might say, I find it interesting that this group of people are letting one or two people take the blame. This is truly an example to our students the politics they will face in the future. Now it’s a matter of no longer protecting our kids from harsh realities but helping this traverse the slippery slopes.

I think three ways we could impact the decision in addition to this petition: 1. Call the principle and superintendent by contacting the high school office. Leaving voice mails will increase awareness. 2. Boycott the True Blue Gala. This is where they are supposed to share inspirational stories from alumni and teachers. If we boycot their main fundraising event, we can force them to consider other options. It is sad that we have to impact DMC monetarily to have them listen to us. It shouldn't only be a business but a ministry as well. This event is on April 9. 3. From the students, we can organize a sit in at Mr. Luscombe's room. Just pile the entire room with high schoolers during a class period. DMC preaches "unity" but then they turn around and do things like this. It's disgraceful to students (who already have low standards for the administration) and parents who see the positive effects from Mr. Luscombe's teaching method.

Consider boycotting the True-Blue Gala while you also make phone calls to Board Members, The Superintendent and other admin. True Blue Gala Saturday, April 7 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm DMCS Performance Hall

To this point, there are 659 signatures and 221 comments in support of Mr. Luscombe. This is an outstanding show of support, however, I'm afraid this won't accomplish what needs to be accomplished. Mr. Luscombe needs reinstated with a formal apology from the powers that be. 659 signatures is great, but can you imagine what 659 voice mails to the Superintendent and Board may do? That may be the only way you get some change.

I’m just glad I’m friends with the right people. When I grade, I’m very careful to check the financial situation of parents of my students before putting the appropriate letter grade on the paper. Plus I get some really nice Christmas gifts that way too! I also make sure to speak up just enough at devotions but not so much that the Administration might think I have “problems”. Oh and same thing with staff meetings. I just make sure I agree with the principal and tell her how great her ideas are making sure to make some light suggestions but never so much that they feel they aren’t in control. Biblical truth is taught in my room especially on days when certain students are absent. When they are present, it’s just a lot of “why don’t you tell me what you think about that” or “extra credit to whomever wants to come back tomorrow and share how they feel”. Also those “plans” they put you on are not actually so bad if you come to realize they are only a tool used to help us grow as educators. It’s also a great reminder to us that we better not be here for the pay and that we are disposable plates. Those reminders keep us in check and working hard because everyone knows “fear” is the best motivator. I’d post this with my name attached to it but...well you all know what would happen. Parents, alumni, and other interested parties, please help put an end to these “business practices” and political games and help us become the school we were created to be. There has to be a better way to treat people and employees. The teachers here at this school are nervous for their own futures if this can happen to one of the most loved teachers. Commenting on here is not going to be enough. Parents, you may actually have to remove your student from the school if no change is made. Donors, you may have to consider no longer donating. School Board members may actually have to step up and not be afraid to do the right thing even if that means taking a risk. Is it

He was a great teacher when I taught there back in the early 2000's and Iwas really looking forward to him teaching my boys in the near future. I was so impressed with his godly manner when coaching young boys in wrestling and baseball. Definitely a godly man that SO many look up to.

In response to Anonymous Mar 31, 2018, I would like to address a few issues. First of all, I have no ill feelings towards anyone at DMC. I have gotten along with everyone and I have never been mistreated. That does not mean that we always agreed on everything. I have had at least one child at DMC since 1995. DMC has faced many trying situations. I was at the last meeting before approximately half of the students and a fair number of teachers left to go start Iowa Christian Academy. That seemed to be a low point at DMC. However, God led us through it. What is most disconcerting, being not the fact that we have issues arise, but how we conduct ourselves to resolve them. There are always two sides to be considered. One must consider without passion or prejudice any situation that arises. Specifically, to the remark about Satan having a field day. We are all human beings, and Christian or not, we are all subject to the same influences. One could interpret your statement to mean anyone not agreeing with you are being influenced by Satan. The idea that only people believing that Mr. Luscombe should be retained are influenced by Satan and not you is not only wrong but could be considered condescending and ludicrous. As for point 3. DMC is not a business. DMC is a Christian school that should be a bastion of Christian principles used to educate our children. I understand that there are business aspects to running a school. However, we Christians are held to a higher standard by the world and should be held to a higher standard by ourselves. Even when business decisions need to be made, we should not approach them as a secular business would. A prayerful consideration is required. I do not know how long Mr. Luscombe has been at DMC. I would guess for 30+ years. What is suspect, is the reason why now after all these years, he was suddenly not in compliance with whatever was brought before him. You were correct in saying that the administration

"...instead of hiding behind a petition comments section..." This is ironic coming from an anonymous comment. If you are going to have a leg to stand on when admonishing people to address each other face to face, you need to put your money where your mouth is and leave your name.

We are not going to blindly trust something or someone when we don't know the reasons behind a decision, so quit asking. Stop suggesting that everyone who is commenting in support of Luscombe is not trusting the Lord...and if you feel what you are saying holds weight, then don't comment as "anonymous"
