Tech is going to reopen in mid-August. 37,000 students will back to Lubbock. The 9 weeks online instruction will give our community/ and hospitals a buffer to accommodate the increasing cases.

Between the influx of TTU students coming back to town and the re-opening of public schools, Lubbock is headed toward an even worse public health situation than we are currently experiencing. For the health of students, teachers, and families, and with an eye on hospital capacity, please issue an order to keep schools closed for the first grading period.

Schools have always functioned as community petri dish, resulting in waves of infection cycling with school year, spring break returns, and letting out for the summer. With a disease roughly ten times as fatal as influenza, it is wholly irresponsible to allow the community petri dishes to reopen.

Until covid is under control and schools have the needed space, staff, PPEs, and materials needed to thoroughly sanitize, classes have to be online.
