Keep Key Biscayne Soccer Under One Roof
We, the parents and members of the Key Biscayne Soccer Club (KBSC), wish to express our opposition to the proposal to break up KBSC’s excellent programs and to engage different vendors, potentially off-island. Village Council Members Nancy Stoner and Oscar Sardinas put forward this plan during the January 2026 Village Council meeting.
KBSC’s interdependent Recreational and Competitive programs enable our children to choose from an array of age-specific programs (PeeWee, Recreational/Intramural, JR Academy) and seamlessly transition into the Competitive program, based on their development and skills assessment. Children of all ages, 3-14, enjoy the Recreational programs, which benefit from the joint program’s high-quality coaches (minimum USSF D-License), and the Competitive program relies on a constant stream of players eager to learn and develop into advanced team play. Our children have a full range of opportunities while building friendships and creating community through soccer.
We DO NOT want to be forced to take our children to another community to receive early age coaching from certified coaches. We wish to express our vote of confidence in KB Soccer’s current leadership in building an excellent integrated club across all programs. Our Recreational/Intramural program allows our children to master skills at their own pace while having fun together. Every Friday night, we host Intramural games. Moving to a volunteer coaching program would reduce the quality of coaching and commitment towards player development. WE OPPOSE THIS OPTION.
Our Competitive program has evolved with the talent in our community, offering three levels of play (Academy, Elite and Premier). Today, KBSC ranks among the top-tier clubs in the country, offering choice for our competitive players. Why would the Council support forcing our most talented players/teams who play on our Academy-level teams to leave the island? They have earned the right to play and stay on the island without impacting field space. Sending them off contradicts our spirit of community. WE OPPOSE THIS PROPOSED ACTION.
We are very pleased with KB Soccer’s development model and their support for our community. Coaches and staff live and work here. Another vendor will not guarantee better results, especially when they have demonstrated over the last 15 years that they are experts and know what they are doing to create a great club for our Key Biscayne community.
