According to msnbc, Universal Orlando will be closing "Jaws" on January 2nd, 2012. This ride has been the cornerstone of Universal Studios Orlando for over 20 years and is one of the only three original attractions still in operation today. Universal has yet to release details on what will replace Jaws and Amity Island, but given the recent replacement of another classic, "Back to the Future", we can bet that it will be an almost identical ride; minus the excitement and thrills the original provided. Preservation of cinema is a hot topic and this is an extension of that. It's beginning to trickle down to theme parks who can't think far enough into the future to realize that in 20 years people will still be talking about Jaws; not Transformers.
