I've lived in Japan for 10 years. I came here planning to stay for one. The culture and the language are just fascinating, and I heartily encourage students in the UK to take up Japanese. I hope to teach it one day back in the UK.

having cultural diversity has been a part of resource of GB. Japan is one of the furthest country in many ways. do not close the channel to that exotic culture.

It's pity to lose the precious opportunity for UK students. There are so many heritage Japanese language learners in UK so please keep A level Japanese for all of them!

"Modern Foreign Languages" does not constitute as French and German. If we want to fix the UK's broken economy, then we need to focus on creating new opportunities to trade with 'trending' countries, such as Japan, China and the Middle East. We can't block that route off.

Seeing the pupils' excitement of learning Japanese- a completely different language and culture from what they know has made me think that children and young people in the UK should be exposed to Japanese.

The Japanese Test should be continued. Japan is a critical member of the global economy. UK must continue to support students who study Japanese so that the nation can maintain specialists who can work with Japan effectively.

As there are a lot of Japanese companies in the UK, I feel Japanese A Level should stay and not to be withdrawn. The U.K has strong links with Japan and I feel it would be a big mistake to discontinue this subject.

Learning Japanese opened my eyes to a different culture and enabled me to make the most out of my year spent living in Japan. Don't scrap the Japanese A-level!

Why limit students' choices of languages to learn? Japanese is such an interesting and fun language to learn and opens the door to all sorts of cultural discussions such as the levels of formality in the Japanese language, the adoption of many foreign words from different languages written in katakana as we begin to absorb Japanese words into English. Maybe a student who has no interest in learning a European language would love to learn Japanese instead. Why limit the potential to have more people able to do future international business with Japan, to make Japanese friends, to learn about a fascinating culture?

Our Japanese programme, like some other universities', offers a course specifically designed for post A-level students. This is because we know that post A-level students are highly motivated not only to learn Japanese language but also its culture and society.

As a teaching assistant with youth work experience, I've met many young people ranging from primary to secondary who had similar wishes to expand their Japanese knowledge whether it is because they were interested in the culture, the idea of such an exotic language or simply the pull of being able to enjoy media (music, video games, manga, anime) to a greater degree.
It would be a waste to have a barrier blocking that growth. It would make it more challenging to develop the language + cultural appreciation and reduce the incentive for people to take on the language at lower levels if the higher levels are out of reach.
Appalling decision if languages is cut.
