I think it's important for young people to be able to develop their interest in Japan and gain the skill to communicate internationally.

It's a shame to have to give reasons why the UK should offer teaching and have a high quality "end-of-high-school" exam in the language of any important, advanced and dynamic country. With the UK seriously considering scrapping the A level Japanese exam, I question the UK's importance and dynamism, which were once great UK strengths. The reasons for keeping Japanese A level have been eloquently put in other comments to this petition. Please take a few moments to read them.

On point number 2 - Dyslexia. I struggled with the latin languages at school and with the sensitivity and different sounds and tones needed for learning Chinese, leaving Japanese the only language at school I felt I could excel at with my dyslexia. Japanese is a visually stimulating language and phonetically works better for dyslexic students.

As a JLPT N1 level speaker of Japanese I can confidently day that Japanese is a language that we need to nurture in the UK not abolish. よろしくお願いします

I used to teach Japanese in UK and knew there are some students who need to learn Japanese for their future plans.

The U.K. should not exclude Japanese language from an A level to continue being the country with the highest the number of Japanese language learners in Europe.

The UK is far behind its EU counterparts for language acquisition. This needs to change and scrapping languages is not the way to do it.
