Oppose Hickory Grove and Keep Hanover Rural: Protect Scenic Rte. 54!

Please keep Hanover rural!

It is unfortunate that the residents of Hanover County are having to petition the County to take proper action where developer funded improvement road improvement is needed. When will we see a change?

Our scenic county and rural lifestyle are at stake. I moved out here to get away from the overpopulation in Mechanicsville.

This is the second major mixed use development on Route 54. Between the developer and the county, the machinations on traffic, road improvements, and proffers to address impacts document a textbook example of arbitrary and capricious decision-making. With this rezoning, there are no principles only an objective -- to minimize the developer's responsibility for road improvements and cash proffers.

The uncontrolled and poorly planned growth in eastern Hanover shows a lack of competency by the Planning Commission.

When will the county stop cow-towing to the developers and listen to its residents?! Do we really need an 11th gas station on the Rt. 54 corridor, and more retail spaces when there are vacancies in Ashland?

The traffic and pollution of the trucks going in and out of the planned distribution center will affect the air quality on the nearby neighborhoods. We chose Hanover to live in because of the nature within it. Wegmans won't just be an eyesore, but will harm the safety of citizens who are driving and riding bikes. Wegmans needs to go somewhere else! Wegmans should try Petersburg!

Please do not let this plan happen. Ashland has plenty to offer in the way of fast food, restaurants, gas stations and more. The traffic generated by this plan will be a nightmare. Please keep this area as rural as possible.

We have enough commercial development in the town of Ashland. We do not need anymore- it is destroying the rural feel of our community that many of us moved here for! For example, there are already 2 gas stations within a quarter mile from this place. Why do we need to add anymore gas stations and bring more traffic from 95 near our homes?

This is ridiculous.

Please stop this irresponsible development.

We left Henrico County 20 years ago to get away from overdevelopment and excessive traffic. Please stop with the continued development and preserve the suburban feel in Hanover.

The amount of traffic and reduction of trees is ridiculous. We don't need shopping center after shopping center unless the people of that area are requesting it. People move to Hanover for its nature and country like environment. If we wanted to live in Short Pump....we would.

Stop ruining our county! I wish the folks who make all these decisions in the county would spend more time preserving rather than spoiling our (not their) unique historical jewel of Hanover County!

As citizens we have an obligation to hold our representative government accountable. And intervene when they do not act in OUR best interests.

Stop the development madness !

I live near this and do not want more development along Rte. 54!

This proposed mixed use is not the right plan and not appropriate for this area. It abuts an existing quiet residential area and rural, agricultural area to the east. This rezoning should be denied and County officials work with citizens and residents to create a plan that protects the rural, historic and agricultural features of this area.

This development would be perfect for Ashland or Route 1 where it would be compact and contiguous to other commercial development. However, like other commercial developments approved by this Board, this development does not fit the already existing residential neighborhood and rural setting it is being place in. As a result, the gas stations, fast food, convenience stores, office buildings and restaurants destroy the quality of life and property value of the existing residents. All of this commercial development is already available in Ashland. Therefore, to the extent it even succeeds, the development produces no new tax base; it simply siphons off the tax base from Ashland and transfers it to the county. As a result of this and a TIA skewed in favor of the developer, Hanover taxpayers will pay the bill for the services for the development and the improvements and wear and tear on Route 54 while the developer whistles all the way to the bank. The residents will be left with empty office buildings and failed restaurants. When will you all listen to the residents who elected you and say they do not want or need this development. They will be the ones stuck with this commercial disaster, not you.
