It was a great class, I have never had a regret about taking 4 years of German courses in High School.

Do not remove German from the CRSD curriculum! The German teaching staff is exceptional. I took German at CR for 5 years, and every year my German teacher was my most engaged, informed, and effective educator. I learned more about English grammar through my German classes than I did through my English classes! In addition, the German Exchange Program is an invaluable opportunity for high schoolers. I could detail how life changing this trip was, but instead I’ll focus on it’s utility. I have successfully applied my experiences from this trip to countless applications, scholarship essays, grant proposals, cover letters, and resumes. To take away these opportunities from future students would be a disservice.

Such an easy language. Don't go and waste your time with Spanish. Great program with a ton of fun. If it becomes unavailable then I lose faith in our generation.

The German language program at Council Rock was invaluable to me. Experiences from the exchange program were far more effective and formative learning experiences than all of the AP and Honors courses I took as a "successful" high school student. The German exchange program offers opportunities to not only hone foreign language skills, but to navigate another culture, and offers students a unique opportunity to explore their role (both real and perceived) as an American citizen in a rapidly changing world. My German language skills did not lose their utility once I graduated. I will be finishing up my PhD in Evolutionary Biology, and likely continuing as a post-doctoral researcher in Leipzig, Germany. As an increasing number of US students are moving to Germany to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees because of rising costs and diminishing returns on college education in the United States (see link), it would be a disservice to the student body at Council Rock to terminate the German Language program.

Please do not stop offering German to your students. I am a parent of two students who not only learned a new language, but they also experienced the student exchange program and I feel it would be a huge disservice to discontinue the program. It was not only my children who had a valuable experience, but our entire family learned so much about another culture having exchange students stay with us for three years. Even when we did not have a child of our own going to Germany, I still opened my home to a foreign student. As a result of this wonderful program, some of the friendships started still continue to this day. This program was the start of my kids love of traveling and experiencing new cultures. We live in a global society, and what better way to practice what was learned in the classroom than to live in another country. Please rethink this decision, it would be a huge mistake to take any foreign language out of the schools.

Please do not remove German from the Council Rock curriculum! Being able to study the language for five years and then live in the country is an experience that has drastically shaped my life and perceptions of cultures throughout the world. It is truly an experience I will never forget, and reflect on frequently. My experiences in this program have influenced me to continue traveling to other countries such as Norway and Sweden. Council Rock students need to continue to have this opportunity in our ever-increasing global society!

The german program at CR-South changed my life and prepared me for life in the real world more than another other program or class that I attended while a student in Council Rock! Participating in the exchange program while in high school was one of the best experiences of my schooling - I still tell people about and I'm still connected with many of the folks I met while abroad. Being exposed to a different culture helped shape me and prepare for the real world. It breaks my heart that CR doesn't see the value in this. Rethink your decision!!!!

The German program at CRSD was an invaluable experience for my son & daughter. The exchange component of the program allowed 4 kids from different parts of the world to explore each others' countries. We need more cross-cultural communication like this!

German was my favorite class in high school. It brought me out of my shell when I was being bullied. It was the only place I felt safe. German class isn't like any other class. It teaches students to see the world differently. It teaches respect for other cultures. Please don't take that away from our students!

Al Languages are vital to high school students, not just French and Spanish. The German language gives students the opportunity to learn a language rooted in rich history and culture. Schools should be adding languages, not taking them away. Students from around the world know multiple languages, while American students struggle to learn two. If we can keep students interested in the German language, it will keep them interested in learning a second language, and possibly a third down the line.

Learning German, connecting with my heritage and going on the German exchange was one of the best experiences of my life. Don't take that away! German is useful for jobs at several engineering companies. I've gotten job offers because I knew German.

Learning German gives you a competitive edge in the world of business. Why any school district of this caliber would consider doing this shows me that they are not paying attention to the ever expanding global economy. 30 years of German exchange programs have made this district along with Pennsbury unique in giving students a global experience.
