I graduated from CRHS in 1997, taking four years of German. Subsequently in college I took more German classes to get an equivalent of a minor in addition to an engineering degree. More than half of my jobs I gained were because of being proficient in German language. Many of the jobs were either headquartered in Germany or had German customers.
A less obvious benefit of learning German gave me better insight into English: something I was much weaker in writing and speaking. I gained better control over phonetics, diction and grammar by learning the root of English known as German.
Therefore, learning German starting in High School to promote me to learn in college has given me many advantages in gaining great career opportunities.

The German program at Council Rock was tremendously valuable to my high school education. It's where I found a passion for the language that I took with me to my college studies. I eventually studied abroad in Munich, an experience that was truly transformative and life-changing. Although I do not use German in my professional career, I still love and use the language whenever possible, and it all started with the CR German program. I really hope the school administration takes this heart and does not cut the program.

I think a good & logical reason should be provided to taxpaying citizens as to why the German language will not be taught in Council Rock schools!

I went to germany this year because of our schools German program, and I am so glad I did. If the German program is cut then my brother can't have the opportunity to have the experience with his friends like I did. I just hope our district can keep the program so people can enjoy the amazing experience I had.

I have a husband who majored in German (and it is not his first language), one son that is currently in German, and another who is starting this year. My son taking German loves it! He had the opportunity to go to Germany this summer on the exchange program and had a wonderful time.

I took German classes with Herr Brunnett and Frau Demskis throughout my time at Council Rock North. I was not a brilliant German student but I found that it appealed to me much more than Spanish or French. I did not know it then, but in college I would become interested in German philosophy, and now I live in Germany and teach English. Without my introduction to German through these great teachers, I would not be where I am now. I hope Council Rock takes this petition seriously!

This school district should keep German as 1 of its languages offered. It is spoken by many Europeans, including Germans, and is fundamental to strong ties between the US & Germany - currently the pillar of Europe. Our son took German at CRHS and participated in the Ulm exchange program. He also, participated in the German class-sponsored chess tournaments at CRHS. Moreover, to buttress the need for CRHS to continue to offer German is the increased need for translators in many languages in the future. (US Bureau of Labor Statistics just released job forecasts predicting that translators will be the 5th fastest growing occupation through 2022 - source: philly.com, The Inquirer, Monday Aug 10, 2015, Section C, page 1.) In our increasingly globalized world, it is wrong-headed to eliminate a language; in fact CRHS should offer more languages.
Thus, keep German in the curriculum.

German language and culture has strong ties to the history of America in general and Pennsylvania in particular. It is a cornerstone of Western intellectual history. I can't imagine why the current administration at CR would want to make its elimination part of their legacy. It just looks bad, and no amount of replacing it with any flavor of the decade language will help.

Taking German at Council Rock was imperative to my education and Frau Toneatto was the inspiration that led to my being the Kornblumen Königin, Miss German America of Philadelphia 2007-2008. German education should be offered in more districts, not less!

I benefited greatly from choosing foreign language classes throughout school, including all 4 high school yrs. It helped me get a job, & of course, it makes going abroad much easier, & more comfortable. Discontinuing this program would be a huge disservice to your students! Please, keep it!
