Having the option to learn the French language in one's high school should not be a privilege, but a given. Latin has already been taken away from the middle school, preventing students from taking this language until high school, a point where many students have already been taking languages for years. To take away another language is absolutely absurd. I took French from 7th grade all the way up to senior year and even chose to continue French at my university. I love speaking and learning the French language, and to be entirely honest, it has been an excellent skill to have both on and off the college campus. I have used French countless times in my life, from navigating around Montreal with my friends to bringing my fluency up in job interviews as a skill that I am proud to have. Moreover, my French has proved extremely helpful during my time as a student of International Relations. Not only is French one of the official languages of the UN, but the ability to speak French is highly desired skill in many international business companies and international government organizations as well. French is also the official language of 29 countries, some of which are Belgium, France, Canada, Switzerland, Senegal, and Haiti. Having French on my resume allows me to stand out to employers, and that I something I am extremely grateful for. Do not take away the option to learn French in school away from John Jay's students. Based on administrative decisions that have already been made, it is clear that Katonah-Lewisboro is taking measures to slowly remove French from our schools. Sign this petition to keep one of the world's most commonly spoken languages in our district.
