Francis needs to stay alive. I don't care how historically accurate the show is. I watch it for entertainment, not for a history lesson. This is my absolute favourite show, but without Francis, I won't enjoy it half as much as I do now. The best part of this show is Francis and Mary's chemistry. Without Francis, their chemistry won't exist.
