Due to comments made by Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat I feel he should no longer be allowed to compete on the United States 2012 Olympic Basketball team. Wade believes NBA players should be compensated for playing in the Olympics. Thousands of athletes around the country sweat blood and tears for 4 years hoping to make the Olympic team, and receive no compensation for their effort. Wade makes millions of dollars a year for playing a game, but it apparently isn't enough for him. Representing your country at the Olympics should be considered the greatest honor in sports. Wade has since retracted his statement, but that is just him trying to save face in the public eye. It is obvious that this is how he feels inside, that representing his country should mean getting paid. Are we paying our track and field athletes? How about our swimmers? Perhaps our weight lifters? It should be considered payment enough to be offered the chance to compete in the Olympics, the chance to stand and be recognized as the best in the world. He should feel honored to be asked to be on the team. It is my feeling Wade should not be allowed to be part of the Olympic team this year. I myself do not want someone who thinks this way representing me, or my country.
