I chose a specialist course because it contained concepts outside of hard science into which I wanted to delve deeper without forfeiting the science BSc I wished to do. Combining the part C topics into a BSc and taking away part C completely would deprive students the option to explore some less scientific aspects of medicine simply because they opted for a science BSc overall.

I have loved doing DAL as a short course. I have really appreciated how it has supplemented my learning from the Reproductive sciences BSc by giving me a deeper understanding of medicine as a whole. Nowhere else in the MBBS couse have we had such an amazing opportunity to question and debate so many different topics, and without this part C option I would be a less-rounded individual. By doing DAL I feel that I am better equipped to become a doctor after learning so much more about the ethics and law around death. If Imperial wants to continue being one of the best medical schools in the country it should strive to produce well rounded medical students - removing the Part C option severely limits our education. A combined BSc may appeal to some people but if it threatens the existence of the independant Part C options it should not happen. I would not have done the combined BSc and would have been limited to a lab based project. Please do not make this BSc a reality unless you can guarentee that the Part C options remain in place as they currently are!

Have both. Full Bsc in is a reasonable idea. Also a small module at the end of others is good too.

I didn't do DAL but I did History of Medicine last year and it was probably the best thing about the course 5 years on. I really don't understand why they have removed it as a Part C option and I am sad to see that there are going to be further stupid and unnecessary changes to the Part C. It would mean that everyone would be forced into a science based project, which is not everyone's cup of tea. Bring back History of Medicine and scrap the idea of a combined BSc!

I had the opportunity to do DAL last year and learn more about ethics and law in ways which I hadn't considered. I was unsure of whether to do DAL in the first place, and i do not regret my decision as I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had it been merged as one BSc option I would not have considered it at all, as DAL was the most interesting option for me. I would implore college to keep DAL, medical humanities and HoM as separate entities in addition to Part B.

I did DAL last year. I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to study Ethics and Law, not to mention the break from the months of science I had just finished. However, I absolutely would not have done it if it were merged with Humanities or HoM (I am neither arty nor good with history) and a whole year of this would be too big a break from clinical medicine. I feel this decision will be the death of the specialist courses.

I think it would be great to add more opportunities to do more of DAL, but not at the expense of the current course. I've really enjoyed it and agree with Cat that it has been great to have the opportunity to do DAL as well as a Part B course. I think it would be a real shame to lose or change DAL when it's such a good course as it is.

Personally I've loved the opportunity to do a bit of both a medical science alongside a part C option (DAL in my case). I feel that if this was converted to a BSc course it would force students to choose between 2 courses that they enjoy rather than having the best of both worlds and being able to do both a science and DAL/humanities. It would be a shame if this opportunity was taken away from future students.
