Keep Chromebooks at School

I do not think the school and district should be giving my elementary-aged students full access to the internet with no guardrails, as we do not allow that at home. Leaving the computers at school would help to manage and limit their access to instructional needs and not YouTube while sitting in the cafeteria during breakfast time or Discovery Link. Not to mention the daily weight of these computers is a lot to lug around for a petite 6-7yr old child.

They are too heavy for little kids to be lugging back and forth all the time. And I’m concerned about damage which we would then be liable for. Please! Leave them at school!

I mind less that my 5th grader brings her computer home - I recognize she is doing more school work and projects and needs her device to do some of these projects. However, my 1st grader doesn’t do anything for school on his computer. He uses it primarily for art videos and you tube, the latter of which we don’t really want him viewing. And we already have devices at home that could allow the former. Perhaps there are times when a computer is required at home, and it would be fine to send them home for those moments (which are rare), but otherwise, it’d be great if he didn’t have to lug it to/from everyday. He has already broken one from dropping it while trying to carry it along with all the other stuff he needs for school. Seems unnecessary.

We’d love the option to leave Chromebooks at home as we do not allow screen time outside of iReady lessons and some assignments, but they still manage to find their way onto other platforms.

Considering we are in a non-homework school district, and considering all the studies on heavy backpacks on small children, it is ridiculous that the Chromebook have to come home every night.

I amd highly supportive of this petition. My kids try to use their chromebooks to play dumb games, or (worse) watch YouTube clips, at Discovery Link and home. This is a source of conflict and frustration in our home.

Studies show how detrimental screentime can be to cognitive development and behavior. Keeping Chromebooks at school would help mitigate this.

We strongly prefer to keep the Chromebook at school. Bringing them home introduces another screen and proves to be a distraction on a regular basis.

Computers should stay at school unless needed for actual homework, so having the ability to bring home only when necessary would be nice

I would like the option to keep computer at school. we have access to at home computer for homework if our child wants to continue with any tasks and want her to use computers as a tool for education not a toy or a place to use games. Also, our kid regularly forgets to charge her computer, and has difficulty with the role of bringing computer home or back to school. This would help prevent that from happening.

This is a nightly battle for laptop time and unnecessary. Please, help us parents have a smoother nighttime and weekend routine!

Default to a policy of student Chromebooks staying at school

We want to encourage reading books at home during downtime and cannot because of incentives to complete iReady lessons instead. Please help us instill a love of literacy (and not iReady).

Causes such a headache in our house. One extra screen to argue over.
