Mandarin Chinese along with English is the most widely spoken language in the world, and an emerging language of vital commerce. What an incredible opportunity for the children of Boise to learn such a complex and important language.
We are proud of our child for embracing the language and the culture for the past four years. He was devastated that the Kindergarten program has been canceled for his brother but still he is willing to teach him at home!
Please reconsider the abrupt decision to close this unique program. Consider the incredible educational opportunity this holds for the students in the Boise area.

This program is something that is beneficial to our future. We are so far behind other countries, that I believe if the program is in place, it is critical that we fight for it. The youth of today is what will be leading us in 20 years from now. Why would we discontinue something that is only giving our children a fighting chance in the future. Communication is indeed one of our biggest barriers, and as a community, that has supported this incredible opportunity to give our children the tools to come this far, and then to take it away, seems we are falling further behind and not moving forward. Droppong the program will have these kids forgetting what they have learned. The investment has already been made, I think we owe to our kids to continue supporting them and encouraging them to move forward. When we get funding for new computers, do we change our mind and reject the opportunity? Of course not! So why is this any different? Our children are worth this investment.

My girls are in the Immersion Kindergarten class and LOVE learning Chinese. A language such as Chinese is BEST learned at a young age. Young kids can hear and say the right tones much more effectively than those who are older. And missing that window can make it very difficult to learn and be understood later (after age 13). I was beyond excited to have my girls attend Gateway for the Chinese Immersion program even if that meant providing the transportation. To learn their grandmother's native language at a young age is a unique and an amazing opportunity. And to hear them singing in Chinese more than English, at their leisure (i.e. whether it be when they are skiing or playing), has been wonderful! Please reinstate this program and help it grow and succeed !!

I am a former Boise resident now living in Taiwan where they speak Mandarin and write using Traditional Chinese. Being able to speak and read Mandarin Chinese and understand the culture is a HUGE leg up for anyone looking to have a future in anything related to business or international relations. So I am in full support of keeping and expanding the Chinese immersion programs.

I have 2 kids in the program and it has been great for them. They love their teachers and peers in the program. I hope the district reconsiders, it would be sad to see such a unique educational opportunity for the community lost.
