Keep AVCA Tennis Program
The Board of Aliso Viejo Community Association
We the undersigned understand that the Board is in receipt of a petition calling for the elimination or reduction of the Saturday Aliso Viejo tennis program to leave the courts open for unscheduled match play. We strongly urge the Board to continue the program, in its current configuration, for the following reasons:
1. The program makes the best use of a scarce resource. The average number of program participants using the courts the most recent session has been 84; that 31% more individuals than the maximum possible number of individuals served if the courts were left open and used to for doubles play continually during the program hours.
2. The Saturday program uses only 23% of the approximately 34 court hours available outside the working day (6-8 pm weekdays and 8 to 8 Saturday and Sunday).
3. All age groups and experience levels are served by the program. Leaving the courts open caters only those players that already know how to play and would tend to exclude teens and children.
4. This program develops tennis players, both children and adults, in a community, versus exclusive setting.
5. Builds and fosters community; we meet people in town outside our existing circle
