Nothing is more vital to children whether they have intellectual disabilities or not, than to be with the friends they have established & in this case the security of familiar surroundings.

Aiden should be educated in his home district with familiar teachers and surroundings. Let's keep financial obstacles out of the way of properly educating students with special needs, like Aiden!! Educate, not Segregate! Social and emotional education are just as important, if not more, than district protocol!

As a parent of a special needs child, I would point out that my ex-wife and I get the same "tripe" from the education professions at his school. I am very disappointed that in 2015, most school districts refuse to comment about anything. As far as Ms. Mensch (no one notes she is the President of the School Board) is concern, she is at the forefront of a movement to take education out of the hands of a child's true advocate, their parents. Placing such advocacy with strangers that are more concerned about their own professions, their salaries, their benefits & their own agendas.
Education is not just about the top 10% nor is it just about kids. It is about parents & families. I can't tell you how many well-meaning, misguided people that are out there, people like Ms. Mensch that are just destroying public education in this country one child at a time.
The shame is that we let it happen. People are too busy or too afraid or they want to be politically correct to confront the really bullies in our society that cause these issues. It just isn't Aiden, there are a host of kids out there from all walks of life that are not being served by Public Education. It is better to be quiet and let "professionals" run the schools than to stand up to be counted. Hope, your humble efforts make a difference.

Aiden is a valuable member of his community and deserves to be part of his home school, surrounded by others who know him and encourage his success. As a parent of a child with special needs I have found that my son thrives when he is included not excluded and the community benefits, they learn important values about tolerance, acceptance and diversity

Westhampton Beach School District should be ashamed of themselves and the community of same should hide their faces.
