It’s disgusting that an institution that claims to be so environmentally friendly and student centered is allowing this.

As a scientist I can say with some authority that within the fields of large scale data collection and processing AI is a remarkable tool to have at your disposal however as an artist I also believe that it should be kept as far away from creative disciplines as possible (such as the arts, writing, and ethics) it not only enables the underappreciation of those people but outright steals their work with out giving any credit to the individuals it would be unthinkable to allow one student to plagiarize another’s work and pass it off as their own but that is what AI dose to creative disciplines and to pretend otherwise is ignorance at best and fraud at worst

Generative Ai should not be a part of college curriculums. The fact that we have to make such a request at all is ludicrous. Not only is there overwhelming evidence that it causes people to not think for themselves, there have also been cases of people becoming so wrapped up in generative ai that they have a mental health crisis. Generative Ai is dangerous not only to the intellectual integrity of the students, but to their mental well-being as well. I am strongly opposed to having this sort of ai in my college.

For a school that’s so invested in being eco friendly, to the point of starting the geothermal project that is taking YEARS to finish and thousands of dollars, you’d think they’d be conscious enough to know the ecological effects of ai and the warehouses that host ai servers.

As a student who has worked really hard on her assignments without the use of AI, I feel as if this is an unfair and untruthful path to go down. I am not saying that AI is evil, but there needs to be restrictions. AI could be super beneficial for the medical industry and other fields, but I feel it has no place in an academic environment. AI is horrible for the environment and as an artist, it is so sad to see all the hard work of fellow artists being looked over because of a prompt that took someone five seconds to type in that generated art. I feel it is the same with essays and pieces of schoolwork. Your schoolwork shows your individuality and your dedication, and AI takes the soul and life out of that work. Again, I am not saying AI should be banished for all eternity, but what I am saying is that it needs to be restricted. Everything made with AI should be Labeled as such. Or anything made with the help of AI should be labeled as such. I believe the use of AI in classes should be up to each individual professor rather than the school as a whole.

MHC should back up its claims about being pro environment and AI is not the way to do it.
